Really upset! Advice please.

So, i have had good consistent weight loss for the first weeks I've been on the plan, as follows:

Week 1 - 3.5lbs
Week 2 - 2.5 lbs
Week 3 - 2 lbs
Week 4 - 3.5 lbs

Excellent right?

Then last week only a half a pound - despite my food diary being signed off and loads more exercise than usual - but the consultant wrote it off as a 'star week'.

Just weighed in today - and despite another correct food diary and nearly 8 hours of exercise this week - I have only lost a pound again.... Spoke to the consultant because I was in tears and she told me that I need to eat a lot more and to increase my syns from around 4-6 a day to 10.....

Anyone else ever had this problem? Is increasing my food intake really going to make me lose weight (and I havent gone hungry on what I'm eating now!!) - increasing my syns too?

Before anyone suggests my measurements are out or whatever - I check EVERYTHING that passes my lips in the books, I measure all things that need measuring (often rinsing the spoons, etc, between spoonfuls so that no extra can possibly be going in...). I am just gutted.

I am trying to focus on a loss is a loss - I know that I have done well so far, but I have worked so hard this week, I can't believe that I only lost a pound.

Then you hear other people at group saying 'I'm pleased with a 2lb weight loss because I was at a bbq on Saturday and had a bottle of wine, and two slices of choc fudge cake'!!!!:(:cry:

If anyone has any suggestions or reassurances I'd be SO grateful to hear them....

Thanks - if anyone wants me, I'll be sobbing into my Mullerlite....

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling down. There are so many reasons why you may lose less one week. It could be any number of things, and upping your exercise may just be a contributing factor. If you're not eating enough for the amount of activity you're doing, then your body could be holding on to what it has to compensate. Alternatively, with 8 hours a week it could be a muscle build up - muscle weighs more than fat! Or, it could just be the way it goes. Some weeks you lose more, some you lose less. I know that I have lost minimal amounts/stayed the same some weeks when I know that my food diary has been spot on.

I would try to up your syns to 10. Then shake things up a bit! Try some green/red days, and see what happens. Don't feel down. A loss is still a loss!
x

What you need to look at is youve lost 13lbs in 6 weeks - thats brilliant. We have weeks when we have smaller losses. Im on a VLCD and Ive had weeks when Ive only lost 2lbs its SO demoralising but you need to focus on the bigger picture. Remember too, SW say you can expect to lose 1 - 2lbs a week so in actual fact with the exception of your 0.5lbs week youve been bang on target OR OVER their estimates

Youre doing great :)

My consultant always says you need to eat lots for it too work. Obviously the right things tho so start with trying to get in extra speed foods. With regards to syns i find when i have all mine i lose more than if i don't. I walk about 35~50 miles a week and swim so i think my body needs it. Have u had a look at peoples diaries?? May help you. Sorry if ive just said what u already know?!! don't be disheartened tho you May be losing inches more as u do so much exercise so could measure urself too. Good luck and ur welcome to look at my diary "gem n nikkis final countdown"

I was told that when upping your exercise to more than your body is used to will make your muscles retain water. the scales maybe wont show a loss but the tape measure might. I find keeping track of your inches just as important when you are exercising. x

Thanks, everyone so much for taking the time to post a reply. I was so down earlier that I was thinking i needed to change the plan i am on - but hearing all of your advice has helped me to decide that I will stick with it and see where it goes :)

The exercise has been brilliant - but I have now been pulled up short as I have today developed shin splints  I think I'll need to do more low intensity exercise until i can get rid of them - swimming or something.

Anyway - thanks so much for caring!! :D

you are welcome. thats what we are all here for!

Hope youre felling better about it today. Swimming can still be a good exercise, it works all of your body so helps keep you in shape. i always like to have a swim after a gym session, for some reason just lifts my spirits a bit. x

Hi Cornish Angel :)
Just to second what everyone else is saying, please don't be disheartened because you are doing amazing!!! You have had fab fab losses so far, and it will even out a little bit. Just think at first it is a whopping shock to the body when you change your diet, your body is probably getting used to the good foods you are fueling it with. This doesn't mean that you won't lose weight, you've lost every single week! Also as Lorna said, if the exercise you are doing is high impact the muscles do require water to heal :) exercise is great for you though and that doesn't mean you should stop - maybe swimming would be a fab idea though to help those pesky shin splints, ouch!! It does feel rubbish when you think that you deserve more than 'just 1lb', but as has been said many times on here, 1lb a week is almost 4stone a year! And if you can find the picture of what 1lb looks like, it is a LOT of weight for just one tiny little week. Your doing incredible, keep up the good work, and I am positive that the scales will reflect how well you are doing very soon and you will get the losses that you definitely deserve.
Good luck on the rest of your weight loss journey :) make sure you let us know how you getting on xxxxxxx

Hi I know just how you feel, I had W I today and have only lost 1/2 lb again, lost 2 lbs last week, was made up, 1/2 lb the week before. I also know just how you feel about others saying they "only lost 2 lbs then go on to say they had a bottle of wine etc" I am always 100% on plan and my losses are quite often now only 1/2 lb but I will keep going. But as others have said, you may be losing inches rather than weight. Good luck in your weight loss journey, it will come off eventually.

Hi There

I can only echo what everyone else has said, our consultant says that when you do more excercise than usual your body stores lactic acid (thats why you ache) and that can cause a gain. Make sure you drink enough fluids too.

Are you making sure each meal has 1/3 superfree/free foods? thats another one that keeps getting hammered home to us.

Have you asked about success express?? I'm afraid I don't know a lot about it but in our group it is sometimes suggested if people are finding they don't lose as expected, its supposed to kick start your body and help you lose, its still a SW plan but you do it in a slightly different way. Maybe someone else on here knows a bit more about it.

Look at the bigger picture you are doing fab and soemtimes it takes a little while for loss to kick in when you're sticking to it, you'll probably find next week you get a good loss. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to it, but stick with it and you will get there. Keep going you're doing brilliantly!!

I know exactly how you feel. I had a friend that joined with me went out every weekend and got to her 2st off in 3 months. Here I am a year and a half later just nearing my 2st target. I will admit that i'm not good all the time as you still have to have a life.... but I would say I am good the majority of the time. We are all just different and lose weight at different rates. I've found that now I have been on plan so long it is just a way of life and I know I won't go back to my old ways. If I had lost it quickly I don't think i would have learned as much as gained will power I did not know I had. Keep strong you are making a positive change that will affect the rest of your life.

Can completely relate as I'm having the toughest month so far. I've no advice really as I'm at a loss as to what to do too just try and not give up on it completely...it's a plateau and they can last a while as I'm finding out :s

Muscle weighs more than fat too so if you are getting fitter you might weigh more but be better off as muscle also continues to burn fat even after you stop exersising :)
