what can i eat?

Hi everyone

I am a newbie here so sorry if i have poisted this in the wrong place.

I am going to be starting orlistat on Monday and don't know what i can eat? i know i can't have much fat and the doctor didn't tell me what i could have really, she mentioned chicken and turkey (not a big meat eater but i am willing to eat it) but i am stuck for other food ideas can someone help me with a meal plan/guide thankyou x

most of us on here tend to stick to the 5% rule for been on xenical basically check the boxes for food that is less than 5g fat per 100g (best just to check packets until you get your own list of things you can eat) and then try and eat less than 45g fat per day... easier than it seems at first

another good tip is to go on my fitness pal where you can look at other peoples meal plans quite a few of us are on there at the moment and you can track your food every day and see how many cals used

another tip, try to start eating the way you will on the tablets now, as sometimes they can react with the residual fat left in digestive system and have tripped a few people up and then been tangoed

theres the link to my fitness pal

and don't forget to drink plenty of water, seems a chore at first but soon get used to it i am now on 4 litres a day and a bit of a junkie lol

Hi, Thanks for replying. What do you normally have for lunch and dinner? My doctor didn't even tell me to eat low fat before i took these tablets do you think it would be ok to eat low fat for say 3 days then start on the tabs on wed/thurs? (then obv carry on low fat) sorry for the questions i am new to all of this. Thanks for your help :)

hiya - hope you get your head round this soon hun.

try to eat lots of veg and fruit and eat lean meat - i eat loads of chicken.

have a look at all the jars you usuallly use and try to stick to ones which are less than 5g per 100.

i use packs of savoury rice and pasta with sauce which are really low fat.

use tinned fruit if you have no fresh.

others will come in and add with their advice and you'll be losing weight before you know it.;)

have a good look round the forum and get as many tips as you can.

let us know how you get on hun xxx

Thankyou MrsA have been good-ish last couple of days i know i have to stick to this! Thanks for the food ideas it has given me some idea of what to buy when i go shopping this week. I have learnt more from this site than from my own gp..they don't tell you nothing

just ask away hun - we will try to help you cos we are all in the same boat and trying so hard to lose weight ;)

My Gp was rubbish, didnt even say eat low fat...just said take these and come back in a month 3lb lighter if you want more!!!

Good Luck

I know, absolutely useless my doctor...i went to see him about a cough and he told he to loose weight and stop smoking....so i said,I have stopped smoking...have you??? then asked what my weight has to do with a cough...didnt have a reply!

Makes me laugh cos if i had a problem with drink or drugs or smoking, id get lots of help!

its so annoying isnt it, weight is always to blame for everything according to the doctors, and like you say if you were an alcoholic and drug addict you would be given loads of help, same as if you were anorexic or bulimic you would be given help t0o, so why not the same if your over weight!! No they just pick at us, Bloody doctors!!
