Hello ladies!!!!
I havae been doing the diet from the last week of november and I think that I have done really well.I love the diet, don't get me wrong but I dont know about the side effects and one in concrete.
I have only notice the last couple of weeks that my hair is thining, and I am already not the kind of person that has loats .
In one hand I think that if I really concentrate and do it propelly until june I will be able to meet my goal by then but at the same time I just can bare the idea of always covbering up teh crown of my head just for the sake of being skinny.
I just dont knowand it drives me a bit insane when I go the get my hear wash and retwist ( I have dreadlocks) because I am a bit ashame of the look on my locktisian whenit gets to that part.I don't know, what have been your experience and what do you think?

Thank you all in advance.

it is known for you hair to fall oiut slightly on cd, i went to see my counsellor and the first session a social worker sat in and they asked my diet and when i told them she made a real snotty remark about is my hair falling out yet. is it really noticable? maybe speak to your cd? x

Hi there,

One of the side effects some people find is hair thinning but it grows back. It's up to you to decide what you really want... you've done so well, don't beat yourself up. Atleast the hair will grow back quickly... I know what I'd opt for if it was me...

The thing is, it's too late to stop your hair falling out. The 'damage' was done when you started Cambridge - it takes 3 or 4 months for hair to actually fall out and it's caused by stress to the body - in this case, the stress of you starting Cambridge. But the good news is that the hair coming to replace the lost hair will be fine and most likely healthier than before.

Even if you stop doing Cambridge, it won't prevent the hairs that are going to fall out anyway from falling out, if that makes sense.

Let me dig out the article I've got somewhere on why it happens... Back in a few...

Okay, here we go: Weight Loss, Hair Loss and Low Carb - Low Carb

Weight Loss, Hair Loss and Low Carb

In ANY weight loss program that you follow, hair loss often occurs at the same time. This is a natural result and the hair will grow back in once you reach your target weight. Often the hair is even thicker than before!

... First, It's good to note that a hair doesn't simply grow forever. Each hair on your head grows for 4-5 years, then falls out. So your hair is always renewing itself. The long growth stage is called anagen and the short stopping phase that follows is called catagen. Then the hair falls out, which is telogen. The hair follicle then goes back into anagen and makes a long hair for the next 4-5 years.

What happens during weight loss is Telogen effluvium. It also happens after any stress to the body. Some of your hair follicles go into catagen to conserve body resources. So the hairs stop growing and "rest". Once your body feels safe again, those hairs go back into anagen - but because there was the pause in the middle, the brand new growing hair pushes the old hair out of the follicle. So in reality you have just as much hair as you did before - and it's probably far healthier hair. But the new hairs are short.

Normally around 10% of your head of hair is in the catagen or telogen phase, in essence resetting itself to prepare for new hair to grow in. Because you have so much hair on your head, you don't even notice. During weight loss that percentage gets higher, but this is only temporary. Your body starts creating new hair in its normal cycle once it settles into a healthy weight and those hairs start growing again. Remember that hair doesn't reach a long state overnight! So all those new, healthy hairs need time to grow out to whatever length of hair you have chosen.

Usually it takes 6 months for your head of hair to have grown back out to typical fullness. Hair grows around 1/2" per month, so at the 6 month mark, the hair is around 3" long which is enough to seem thick on most heads. Again, it's not that the hair is MISSING during this intermediate time. It's just that it is brand new and growing from scratch.

This thread has made me realise something!! The past few days I've noticed when washing my hair that I'm malting a lot more than usual and now I think I know why. Thanks Lily!! :)

excellent info, thanks Lilly

The hair loss is something that really concerns me. I'm only planning to ss for 3 months. Could do without hairloss as wedding is in September! X

Don't panic, most people don't lose loads of hair. Nearly everyone has a week or two where they notice that there seems to be more coming out than usual, but then it settles down again.

Thank you guys(done it individually but...here it is again)
Lily thats a great article nad as you said, the damage is already done I may aswell be thin withnew healthy and nicer hair.
I just gonna concentrate really well in finishing the diet as I've come this far and then let nature take its course.
Thanks again ladies.

My advice to everyone is supplements!! I take 3 seakelp tablets a day, and 2 horsetail & rosemary tablets a day (available from health food shops)

I was sceptical but my mum made me take them as she was worried my hair would fall out, and it's so good - she's been taking them for a few months and she actually has a whole new lot of hair that's grown - she has what looks like a fringe, but it was never cut in - its just purely new growth!

I'm slightly worried it'll make me hairy all over......but it doesn't seem to be, lol, and my hair feels a lot thicker at the roots already xx

(p.s. you won't see an immediate difference, it will take a couple of months for you to, but eating again will take a couple of months to kick in anyway before your hair starts to thicken up, I think)

or if you really want to just leave the diet, still take the tablets - they will help! My mum isnt on a diet, she just takes them because she had very thin hair.
