Water Water Everywhere?

Hiya everyone!

I'm not sure if i'm covering ground already covered but i have a question to ask...

How is it that water increases weight loss? I get that it makes you feel fuller so the craving to eat is lessened, but does it actually aid weight loss in any other way?

I lost 2 stone on the CD diet (since January), without religiously drinking 3 litres a day, but now i'm stepping up my water in take and wondered if it would help speed things up or am i just being over optimistic?

Thanks in advance for you help! :)

Hello.

Water does a few things.

- it helps fill you up
- its great for skin/hair (so a good habit to get into

But most importantly....
- it flushes the ketones from your body.
This helps reduce headaches, and increases your energy. More important still, ud the body senses a build up if ketones - it'll feel like its under attack. This can lead to reduced weightloss, as the body holds onto as much fat as possible to help it fight the impending attack.
- it reduces your body retaining water. Getting your body used to a regular intake of water, means the body reduces the water its holding 'in case of emergency'. As it trusts you'll drink again before it needs more. Less water retention reduces weight and bloatedness.

water

I believe that plenty of water also dilutes the sodium levels in the body helping you not to retain water. I know that if I can make 4 litres, it really shows on the scales. I aim to get through a litre in four hours. Its easier when its wine, but hey! ;)

Also the process of converting fat to energy is, in it's self, a real energy burner! Sometimes, if you are doing something quite strenuous your body can't convert the fat for energy quick enough and you'll suddenly feel drained/tired/weak and won't be able to carry on... But your body can get energy from water. All be it a teeny-tiny amount but it can be enough for it to carry on the fat burning process just that bit longer, resulting in greater weight loss (because you've 'got rid' of more fat.

Just don't over-do it. Too much water is as dangerous as not enough.

I think I know what you're trying to say, Mandy - but cos I'm a details kind of girl (it's my job to be and I just can't help myself!), I've gotta take issue with the 'your body can get energy from water' line. Because it can't. Water is a calorie free substance - and if you were to drink cold water, you'd actually be in a negative calorie situation because your body would need to find energy from somewhere else to heat it up to body temperature.

That said (sorry ), one of the contributing factors to feeling cr*p after doing strenuous exercise while in ketosis is likely to be low blood pressure. Being in a state of ketosis is also naturally dehydrating - it isn't just drinking all the water that keeps you running to the loo all the time! Drinking water will help bring your blood pressure back to a normal level - so that you feel better and can keep going.

Hehehe! I should make myself clearer... I look like a doughnut!!

I didn't mean 'literally' water gives the body energy. What I meant was that when we do something strenuous water gives us a boost (energy) because it's usual to also be dehydrated which causes us to be tired.

Mmmm. I know what I'm trying to say. Just not explaining it well so I'll shut up.

Aw, no - don't shut up! :) I probably shouldn't have written anything. Definitely didn't want to make you feel like a doughnut. :( I did get what you meant - it's not always easy to get across what you mean, is it? My apologies - I must've been in a particularly pernickety mood last night... x

Doughnut?! Where?!! Who said Doughnut! ;P
