Baby weaning advice and a few questions

big bear

A bear on a mission!
I'm confused as to what age I should start weaning my baby. With my son it was 4 months old, am I right in thinking it's 6 months now?

My daughter is just over 5 months & the I bottle feed her but she isn't going long between feeds. She'll have 7ozs and doesn't want any more but a couple of hours later is hungry again so I've been giving her baby rice in the morning (hope it's the right thing to do)

When should I introduce other things like pureed carrots/potatoes etc

Also is she too young for finger foods i.e. cucumber sticks? What other finger foods can I introduce to her?

Any other ideas/recipe advice/tips appreciated

I would probably start her on a little bit of baby rice now too, tbh, if it were me, she's showing signs of being ready and you should let her lead the way. Try her with new stuff after a few weeks, once she's used to the rice, bring in sloppy mash, or carrots, weetabix etc - just one food at a time so she can explore the flavours one by one and you will get an idea of her preferences.

Finger foods, leave a while, let her get used to the taste and texture of sloppy solids first. She won't be know how to chew straight away, so might be worth hanging on until she's sitting up comfortably and maybe teething before you start them.

I don't think you can put an age on when a baby should be weaned - every baby is different. I had two girls and one needed weaning at 5 months the other not until she was nearly 8 months. If your baby is getting hungry after a couple of hours it sounds as though you are right to start weaning.

It's a long time since I had my children so not really sure when you can introduce different foods but I think giving pureed veg and/or fruit is something which you could start to introduce fairly soon.

I would rather give a baby pureed fruit or veg than rice as I think it is better for them from a health point of view. I think the main thing is not to introduce too many new flavours/textures too quickly.

Your local baby clinic/health visitor should be able to offer you the current advice on weaning.

Seems MLM beat me too it!

The best time is when you think baby is ready. Look up baby led weaning on the net too it's fab.
