Hi guys needs some help/advice please.

i had my dexa bone density scan a couple of weeks ago - 6 years ago i had severe osteopenia - which i was told was reversible.

i was on the depo injection. I immediately came off the depo injection and went on implanon. as I was told that there were no side effects for BMD.

i have been told (aw meeting with dr to see how severe it is now) that i still have osteopaenia and am rather upset. I think i need to come off the implanon and go back on oral pill but need some advice/hugs/kick up bum

will probably be on calcium etc but dont think implanon is helping specially since i have been looking on the internet and people are complaining of it there.

anyone got any experience in this area?

thanks in advance

sorry darling don't really have any advice because I've never heard of this before, just wanted to send a hug and a smile to you xxxxx ((hug))

Is it all connected to estrogen levels, as they often say that one of the reasons bone density drops post menopause is related to estrogen changes?
Have they suggested whether you'll be on the regular (estrogen and progesterone) or the mini (progesterone only) pill?

I'm really sorry you're having a hard time hon *hugs*

Hey sweety!!

((((((hugs)))))) sorry your having a hard time babe, this isnt something that i have experience in, I've had problems with the depo injection but for different reasons.

I did see this website tho that suggests some preventative exercises to stop fractures etc Osteopenia exercise treatment maybe its worth having a read of that?

I also think it would be good to discuss this with your C to see if you need to have more A choices or find free foods which contain calcium

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I have no experience of birth control drugs at all so am no help there at all.

However I have nearly 6 years experience of treatment for bone density treatment and dexa scans.

I had zometa intravenously for over 5 years and still take calcium on a daily basis.

If you are concerned about your bone density it might be worth asking abut taking an oral form of a bisphosphonate as it does slow down bone loss.

big, big hugs xxxxx

thanks guys am off to dr on tuesday night to discuss this and also my method of birth control as will have to come off the implant, probably back on combined pill but have to be careful because of my bp. am getting thre report sent to me but its in my spine, hips and neck.... not v severe so probably pulled it back from how it was 6 years ago. i belive i will have to take calcium and vitamin supplements too
