Hi all after 4 months, I'm a a point were I'm happy with my current weight and have decided to no longer attend SW, Ive seen a few posts were people said they have gained weight while not attending, how likely is it that in a few months or more I will be in the same position, Has anyone being able to keep the weight off without having the weigh in and classes

I dont know if it is different when you get to target but I definately struggled without classes as I didnt have a set weigh day and had nothing to look forward to! However I know that other people have stopped going and have been fine I think it depends on the individual x

Hi Tony
I've never been to classes - I live in Spain - but I've followed it here on my own. Lost 2.5 st 3 years ago, decided to have a break (I got fed up doing it on my own) but kept the weight off for 2.5 years. So it can be done.
However, put 7lbs back on at end of last year due to serious over eating and now trying to shift another 3.5 st (over 1 gone since mid-Jan).

You have to be disciplined if you don't go to class. Still weight regularly and if you put a bit back on, hop back on the plan and lose it.

The main thing is not to go back to you old ways that put the weight on in the first place. Keep to healthy eating, continue to use very little fat - why fry in gallons of the stuff? You don't need to.

Hope this is helpful. It can be done.

Can I ask why you have decided you do not want to go to class any more? As a target member you would not need to pay and you only need to go once a month to retain that right?

As for whether you will put on weight if you don't go. That very much depends on you and whether you have made permanent changes to your lifestyle. Maintaining is often even harder than losing weight, so i would recommend that you continue going until you have at least worked out how to balance eating more with staying the same weight.

I got to target in April 2010 and maintained for 6 months while still attending class. Then I changed jobs and couldn't get to class as regularly, so eventually stopped going. I have just rejoined at a new class this week, as over the last 7 months or so I have put back on a stone of the 4 I had lost :(

So, for me, my answer was 'no'!

I dont want to be obsessed by my weight and a slave to the scales, my last week I went UNDER my set target, and was told unless I but weight ON i would have to pay. Ive hardly ever weighed myself before joining SW

i suppose it depends, i know it would spiral out of control if i didnt have that 'weigh day'.. with other people etc.

the thing is i enjoy my class so, when i hit target i still go every single week, week in week out. . still do now..even though the scales are going up for me now lol.. i couldnt have stayed at target for over a year without my group. x

I've seen so many target members leave and then come back, usually a stone to 21lbs heavier but often having put all the weight back on and more.
It can be done, yes, but I couldn't. For me though, SW groups are more than just a weigh in, plus consultants do like to have target members in their groups as inspiration and support to others.

I think I would have to go even if it was only once a month, I wouldn't want to go every week as I think I would become OCD about my target weight and panic if I went back over it!

I think the bottom line is that you will always need to check your weight, perhaps not weekly but at least monthly. Last time I hit target (and I've never been to classes) I didn't weigh myself for a long time, then I was afraid too and now here I am again. This time when I get to my target I will always keep an eye on my weight so I can rectify any gains there and then.

Good luck whatever you decide and congratulations on hitting target!

A member at my club reached target in Nov. then didn't attend. I saw this member back 2 wks ago and he had gained 2 stones! He stood in front of other members and begged us that when we reach target not to walk away, come and get weighed....this only takes 5 minutes of your time to do and it's better to be 1lb over/under your target then 2 stones over.

I fully intend to keep going even if it's every other week.

xxxx

The majority of target members in my group come once a month, they rarely stay to group but they do stay at target.

Thanks for all the advice, I think for now I will keep a regular check on my own weight, maybe fortnightly and If I have any significant gains re attend SW ASAP, This site seems to offer support and motivation to keep focused on maintaining my weight or at least keeping it under control

I know i cant maintain on my own so I will definately still keep going to class once i reach target because i dont want the weight to creep back up on me but i know everyone is different xxxx

you get free lifetime membership once you hit target so you can always return as and when you feel its right for you- but do keep up with us! its no fun maintaining on your own! xx

I don't attend classes anymore but it's due to the cost of class! I spend the £20 i'd spend at classes a month on food that I need to do SW! But it's all about the mindset. I can do it because I'm in the frame of mind to do it. I weigh on a friday and look forward to weighing in. I have support if need be from people on here, plus friends. I have 2 people at work and 2 friends who follow SW so we're always talking about it.

In fairness i've lost weight at home before and managed to keep it off or at worse have gained a few lbs but everyone does that! All about how much you want to make it a life change and I don't want to be going to group for the rest of my life trying to keep the weigh off!

Good luck whatever you decide to do :)
