Microwave steamer warning

A word of warning if you use a microwave rice steamer from Lakeland.

I use mine a couple of times a week and I noticed not so long ago that there was a small crack on the side of the inner bowl. I thought that maybe I had dropped it although I couldn't remember doing that. I carried on using it until this week when I was putting my rice in and part of the bottom fell away, leaving a hole about an inch across.

I was going to go in and buy a new one and thought I'd check the price on their website. Then I saw there are loads of reviews from people experiencing the same problem. One person even had part of the bottom of the outer bowl fall away when they were taking it out of the microwave. Imagine if there was boiling water in it when that happened!

So keep a careful eye on your steamer and if you see any cracks take it back for a replacement. Lakeland are good about giving refunds but if you don't have the receipt you can get a credit note or replacement item. Don't let them say it's because you used it on HIGH instead of MEDIUM - the instructions that come with it say to use HIGH. I'm surprised that Lakeland haven't warned store staff about this problem or been more proactive in warning customers about the potential risk.

Thats a bit bad if they are still selling them!!! I know their refund policy is good but that could be dangerous - no good getting a refund when you've got boiling something all over your feet!!
