hi i got a new set of scales with a body fat analyzer, it tells me im 3st 2 pounds of body fat and also shows me that its in the red... (not good im guessing! lol) what is a healthy amount of body fat for a 5'7 woman? thanks :) x

20-25%. 18% is "athletic". So, as a rough example. 10st would put someone of 5ft 7 with a BMI of 21.92 which is well within the healthy BMI range. So 2 - 2 1/2 stone of body fat would be considered healthy at that BMI. Its not quite that simplistic, but thats the general idea.

That's not quite right MLM

Age-Adusted Body Fat Percentage Recommendations
Women
Age Underfat--- Healthy Range --- Overweight -----Obese
20-40 yrs Under 21% ---21-33%------------ 33-39% --------Over 39%
41-60 yrs Under 23% 23-35% 35-40% Over 40%
61-79 yrs Under 24% 24-36% 36-42% Over 42%

Men

Age Underfat Healthy Range Overweight Obese
20-40 yrs Under 8% 8-19% 19-25% Over 25%
41-60 yrs Under 11% 11-22% 22-27% Over 27%
61-79 yrs Under 13% 13-25% 25-30% Over 30%

Obviously women should have a much higher fat to muscle ratio... we *should* have boobs!

I'm currently 29% body fat which is fine for me, due to my age and gender!

Beyond obsession with you mollusc. lol

Yep, I'm aware I'm slightly obsessive... BUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTT I knew the values MLM gave weren't quite right as I was at the gym and the lady measured me and said I was "perfect" and didn't need to lose ANY more and I was 29% body fat. :)

pmsl!

I meant obsessive about babs/puppies - your maths and theory are beyond reproach, bordering exemplary (dictonary pie for lunch).

I googled for body fat for a woman 5ft7 and what I posted was the concensus for a couple of places. However, one or two sites did say that in some cases up to 30% was considered to still be acceptably healthy.

Personally the BMI indicator is very flawed, a body builder who is completely healthy, lots of muscles, eats healthy exercises and is physically fit toned will have a BMI of 30+ if not 40+ now tell me he is overweight?
