Giving blood?

Silly question but in not sure if it'll be ok.

I want to give blood tomorrow, only give it once before and want to again.

Will I be ok donating while on LLT? What about the biscuit and drink they ask you to have before you leave? Shall I just say no thanks and have a bar?

Thanks

Hi. Giving blood will be fine but u should rest after and have something to eat. I would take a bar and have a black tea or water. They test your blood first so if your at all anaemic they will tell u. Xxxx good luck

i didn't when in abstinence. my doc advised against.

As soon as I was off LL I did - and I still remember the lady asking me if I was sure I weighed over 8 stone, lol!

Hi Lana, I work with the National Blood Service and asked a colleague who works on the collection team. She said that it is unlikely that you would be able to donate due to the volume you would lose - not a large amount but it would be when you consider you are losing mass (sorry for the horrible term 'mass') at a fast pace on LL. However, you can ask them to check with a session nurse or call the medical adviser for more information, I'm sure your counsellor would also have information on this.

Thanks for your replies and thanks Claire. I think I'll wait a while at least until on on RTM.

There is always some reason why I'm unable to donate it's so frustrating!

I wanted to donate when I was on total and my LLC said it would be fine but I couldn't in the end as I had had a tattoo only a couple weeks earlier.

I am booked in for 18th April, I get quite dizzy after blood tests (never donated before) but think it is worth it.

I'm a regular donar, but said I wouldnt donate until I a finished this. You can feel lightheaded after donating, and with no food in your belly its more likely this will happen.

I'd say give it a miss till your 100%

I'm a regular donor too, but will wait to donate until I'm finished.

My GP told me years ago that whenever he donates he takes lots of vitamins the day and morning before. So whoever gets his donation gets a little extra help too! - Bless :) I have done the same ever since.

My theory is - as our packs provide just the right amount of everything we need for us during the program, we have little to spare for donation.
