M&S Edamame Beans Snack bag and Cofresh SPicy Chick Peas?

Hi there,

I have just bought a bag of M&S Edamame Beans (lightly salted and baked soybeans). I put it through the syns calculator giving it a green allowance of 'soya beans dried'. They're comign back as 3 syns for the whole bag on EE. Can anyone confirm if i've doen this right! If so, i think they'll make an excellent alternative to other 'snacks / crisps :)

Also the same again for Cofresh Spicy Chickpeas (sold as a snack in a 350g bag) I put in the calculator and allowance of chick peas raw (? not sure abotu this bit) and they come back as 10.5 syns on EE. Which is fine by me as it would take me several sittings to eat the bag!

Cofresh also do a split pea Chana Dal, that i didnt buy but I guess they would also be fairly low in syns comapred to bag size? Anyone have any experience with these Indian snacks based on pulses/beans?

Thanks,
Melissa

The M&S ones are shown specifically in syns online, as 5 syns for the 25g pack.

So I suspect that the chick peas may have to be upped slightly from your estimate too. But the're still not bad!

you need to select cooked beans, as they won't be raw(dried) and it will make a difference to syn value, same for the chickpeas.

dried should only be selected when there has been no preparation at all done to them, so completely dried in a bag, where you usually have to soak overnight.

Anything in fresh packs, or tins etc will mean the beans/pulses have been cooked.

Edamame beans are free on EE in their fresh state, but the ones from M&S most likely had other ingredients (maybe oil or some sort of dressing) or if they are a dried salted snack type item, SW have perhaps decided they don't qualify for a free food allowance to avoid over indulgence.
