Just Wondering

Hello Everyone,

I don't know if I will get any replies to this or not, but this is something I have wanted to know for a long time. S.W. has been around for a long time, how did the diet work before there was a syns calculator? Has there always been syns? and if there has been how did you calculate them? I would guess that if S.W. has been around for 40 years the diet has changed a lot.

Thanks

Sylvia

I remember my mum doing it years ago (successfully too and she has kept is off since my lil bro was born and he'll be 27 this year!!). As far as I recall you just got your syns (or sins as they were known then!) from the printed lists that SW provided, I don't think that members had access to a calculator at all. I remember going to different shops trying to seek out different tins etc as these were the only ones she had the info for - hard to imagine now though!!!

I think that it has changed alot - fruit was sins while corned beef was free, but essentially its always been based on free, HEs and sins / syns but they've amended as more info and more food types became available. Still a brilliant eating plan though, despite the changes!!

I first did it about ten years ago, and it was still Sins (instead of Syns) then - and no calculator then either. Just the book (although the big sin directory was much bloomin' easier to use then (before they messed up the sections) and sins hotline, that really DID cost a fortune.

Fruit was free then, and so was Heinz Macaroni Cheese on Green. I had a tin for lunch every day. I think the third superfree rule has done wonders for my eating habits.

I want to thank you all for your replies, I Live in the US, and I have been paying a fortune for the online program just so I can get the syns calculator, and I am thinking about canceling it, because there really isn't any other support there for me, any way that made wonder what they did before there was a syn calculator.

Thanks
Sylvia

Sylvia, for quick convenience on pure snack foods you can use the 20 cals = 1 syn rule. I know it won't work for alot of foods that have a free food allowance because it still has some saving graces (ie fish in breadcrumbs where the fish could be free but the crumb has syns) but it might save you some money!!

You are so right, the new directory is a right pain in the proverbial - bring back the old listing method!!
