James & My other halves Slimming World Journey

Hi Folks,

I am James and I am 37, I am a yoyo dieter and over the past 10 years I have dieted twice from around the 23 stone mark to ending up under 13 stone, sadly as is the way, each time as the weight drops the arrogance rises and upon completion of my diet (usually after around 2 years of hard work) I am usually so pleased with myself and so confident that I can easily lose the weight again, that I end up putting a couple of stone back on in the post diet celebrations/time off. Then as many of us know, one excuse leads to another and suddenly all that hard work is gone and you are left thinking "what the hell happened?!"

Last go around was about 6 years ago, I dropped about 11 stone with weight watchers, going from around 23 stone to under 12 stone. At about that time I met my now Fiancée, she had kids, so going out was a bit off the menu so instead we ate in and far too much! I stopped attending Weight Watchers weigh in's (a critical error) we shared a love of food and steadily up went the weight, last year I hit a peak of 25 stone 6lb and she went from around 10 and half stone to about 15 stone.

So in January 2010 we decided to do something about it, she could never get her head around the Weight Watchers system and although I knew it like the back of my hand, we ended up by not doing it as she couldn’t stick to the points system. So we played around trying to find something that would work for us both until this year, we dropped a bit of weight from that Jan 2010 to 7th March 2011, I dropped 32lbs to get to 23 stone 2lb and she dropped 1 stone 10lb to get to 13 stone 2lb.

A friend has managed to lose about 5 stone over the past 12 months at Slimming World so as of March 7th 2011 we have both decided to give this a go.

Week 1 - Lost 6lb (misses dropped 2lb)
Week 2 - Lost 3lb (misses dropped nothing, which she was very upset about but she had been sick with some sort of bug for about 24 hours and not eaten a lot, so we are hoping that it was just down to this?)

I joined the online Slimming World, which I must say that I am not overly impressed with for the money, no proper support system like the meetings have, but it suits our life.

Now, I am worried, because coming from a Weight Watchers background to Slimming World, I just cannot get my head around the fact that I can “supposedly” eat so much on Slimming World and still lose weight, so I remain very skeptical. I really do hope that it works, as I would like to lose weight and not be starving all of the time.

So I have read loads of people testimonials, both on here and on Slimming World website, but everyone seems to get the exercise bug not long into their weight loss, and that’s just not going to be me. When I was on Weight Watchers I had more time on my hands and I would get up early (6am) and do 40 minutes powerwalking out around the lanes before work. Nowadays I still get up at 6am but instead just go into work and I don’t get home until 6pm, and by that time I am totally shattered and I tend to get out of the shower and spend the few hours until bedtime glued sofa with my feet up watching TV and getting ready for another long day.

If there is anyone out there that has lost a decent amount of weight on Slimming World whilst 1) not starving themselves and 2) by doing no real exercise, then I would love to hear from you, as some encouragement that it is possible to lose weight without loads of exercise would be much appreciated.

Also I could do with some advice on how the weight loss works with Slimming World, it was fairly steady on Weight Watchers, but I get the impression that people hang around a weight for a while losing nothing for a few weeks and then all of a sudden, up pops a big week? Have many people experienced this? Should I expect this, I don’t want to get disheartened by a few iffy weeks if it happens all the time.

Any advice from those in the know would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time and reading my little story, perhaps you could stop by and see how we are doing as time goes on.

James.

Hi James (and the other half!),

I did SW many moons ago and my weight loss was always steady and that was with very little (probably none really) exercise.

There is a Slimming World section of the forum a bit further down the main menu, maybe having a read of that might help answer some of your questions :)

Best of luck to you both :)

hello James and missus :)

Not got experience of slimming world, but many on here do and I am sure they will post some answers for you.

Just want to wish you both lots of luck and success :)
