Anybody else get told 'your doing it wrong' by friends??!

I ♥ Slimming World
So i have a couple of guy friends who pop round 3 or 4 times a week just to catch up and watch a few films etc, but this normally happens in the evenings when i'm cooking/eating dinner.
One of the guys is on the larger size (no offence meant in any way!) and has watched me week by week lose weight and yet he cannot help himself telling me that i'm doing something wrong!! The latest thing was 'why are you eating so late (it was only 8.30!) - its the worst thing to do, it will make you put weight on' so i just responded 'well it hasn't effected my weight loss so far has it?! and actually its the calorie intake over 24 hours'
It did shut him up but i spent the rest of the evening feeling annoyed because it came from someone who told me a few weeks ago that its ok to eat a large dominos pizza on a saturday night because he doesn't eat anything else that day!!
I think it annoys me more because he is far from being a healthy weight (as i still am, so no offence again!) and seems to be just constantly putting weight on, which makes me feel he has no right to tell me i'm doing it wrong!

Ok so little rant over, but i just wondered if anybody has these sort of people around them? and how do you deal with them without being rude??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated :D

Yep! A lot of my friends are in the "carbs are evil" party and refuse to see that SW does work if you apply it properly. I had one friend who came to SW with me for a bit. Her husband looked at the plan when she got home, told her it couldn't possibly work and she just gave up there and then!

I have another friend who is on the All About W8 plan and I took great delight in telling them that I had lost a stone (at that point) by eating pasta, rice and potatoes ;)

just like that sad but funny, she could have at least tried it for a bit lol

Just ignore and nod and say uh huh if you have to grace it with a response. I love how sw has indeed made helped the process of me getting rid of my food hangups which have plauged me since i was about 12 so i know i'm doing it right my 17 lbs gone says i'm doing it right and seeing my diet is mainly fruit and veg carbs are awesome :D lol

I know someone who often says she doesn't agree with SW as it 'doesn't teach you about portion control' and who thinks eating potatoes will make you put on weight.....funny how she's now joined up and seems to be converted...and now enjoys nice large portions!

My brother was having a go at me the other night as he says that eating at night makes you put on weight. I've been averaging 2lbs loss per week so I will carry on eating whenever I want! x

I have a colleague who maintains that you can eat whatever you wants as long as you exercise every day and that dieting doesn't work at all. I'm not a moron - I get that to lose weight I need to put less in than is coming out so it annoys me that she thinks I need telling this. Also - if someone said - you can be thin - there are 2 ways of doing
1) Eat whatever you want, and spend an hour in the gym every day. Be too knackered to do anything when you get home. Spend all your free time in a place which smells horrible and is full of people who like the gym.
2) Limit your diary, bread, and booze, don't eat too much chocolate or sugar, exercise moderately. Still have a life

I know which one I'm choosing.

I love people who are know alls!!! :) i just smile, nod and stay smug.

I have had some people comment on my weight loss and i am happy with those comments - the others who dont understand can take a long walk off a short pier.

I am going to do this - and i dont care what anyone else says.....they dont know if they dont give SW a go.

Ps - that is a LARGE glass of wine i am holding in my sig pic!! and I DO have a life!!! its synful....! x
x

Thanks so much for your comments guys :thankyou:
I used the ‘hmm ok’ response last night and it worked a treat :D completely shut him up and didn’t say anything more on the subject! Don’t get me wrong he is a lovely friend of mine but hopefully he won’t go putting his 2 cents in anymore! :blahblah:

a lot of the time the "know-it-alls" seem to be motivated by something else - guilt or whatever about their own eating, or some control issues, that kind of thing. I mean, we're all proof that it does work and we're "doing it right" ;)

It's a bit frustrating, though, when people feel the need to comment negatively (it's why I've really not told a lot of people this time, and am blaming my acid reflux issues for my change in eating habits.. which is not untrue, given they're pretty much cured) and figuring out why they're doing it often isn't really very pleasant.

Chin up chuck, you're entirely doing it right and your body knows it.

Could he perhaps be just a teensy weensy bit jealous of the fact that you're addressing your weight and he hasn't found the motivation or willpower to address his own?

And we all know its not when you eat that increases your weight - its what you eat.

You stay smug hun, you never know - he might actually admire your determination one day. :D

I have a friend exactly like this...she does do slimming world and did lose 4 stone but has now put 3stone back on.

But yeah she is the same, tells me i cant have 2 alpens every day..err why not they are an heb.
Tells me that i should have green days as well red...well i dont like green so i wont have em haha.
She even told me that i couldnt have a can of cider because it is 12 syns...i should only have 8 syns apparently.

And now she has started back up it is all she speaks about which is annoying as i do have a life outside sw lol

You shouldnt listen to what other people say. Do what you have to do to lose weight. End of. If something works for them, good luck to them. But sw is working for you and they should be happy for ou. If you are putting your health at risk, then yes they have reason to be concerned, but if youre not, then tell them to stop moaning and get on with their own lives.

Dont people annoy you when they know nothing about Slimming World but feel the need to tell you your doing wrong lol!
I once knew a girl who used to always tell me she was "the diet queen" and that sw was not the best way to go (mmmm funny that because looking at her nowadays, lets just say, I am definetly the slimmer one out of us both) Pmsl!!!
