I'm so scared of putting the weight back on

After getting to goal on 1 May (after losing 6.5 stone), i am now 15 pounds heavier than my orig goal weight (5 pounds gained overnight after a binge yesterday!).

I know i'll get much of that off this week.... but then if my pattern continues i'll binge again, and my weight keeps going up and up after each binge. This is the heaviest i've been since 1 May. (10stone 12lbs).

I was watching tv the other day and some expert said that 98% of us put weight back on.

So what makes me so different to the 98% of the population? How can i make sure i'm in the 2% ???

I'm going to see a dietician on 26 September at my gp's surgery as a first step to getting my binge eating under control, hope it's enough to get me sorted!!

What will make you be in the 2% rather than the 98%?

Luv

OK - this is me having a little word with myself!!!

Isobel - you WILL be in the 2% because.......

1) you're a CDC and have to set an example to your clients that maintenance works

2) you have never been happier since you got to a 'normal' weight so you can't go back to the bad old days

3) you need to show your children that food is not the controlling influence in your lives

4) you've got a wardrobe of tiny, designer clothes that make you happy and you are NOT buying any more!!!

5) you want to stay healthy so you live to see your grandchildren get married

6) you want to feel proud of yourself that you can do it

7) you never want to hear another person insult you because of your size again

8) you don't want to prove the doubters right, who said you'd put the weight back on

9) you want to feel sexy and confident rather than embarrassed and ashamed

10) you want people to forget you were ever fat!

Erm - there are loads more but just writing those down has helped me feel more focussed today. Now I've just got to chant them repeatedly! lol

How about everyone else? What reasons do you have for maintaining?

Hi Karen

I don't have any real advice for you other than to offer a thought. For me, the "goal" has always been getting thinner, I have never ever thought about living life as a thin person until fairly recently. So much emphasis for so long has been on losing weight.

I have a friend who has lost 5 stone recently and she believes she will maintain forever because she loves the attention it brings her. I keep saying to her that the attention will die down and that she should look properly at a long term plan for maintenance.

I am struggling sticking to abstinence and know I still have food issues. I know that I have learnt a lot during the last 11/12 weeks but I am definately not "cured", I believe I am going to struggle forever.

I wish I had an answer for you, maybe you can glean something from the ramblings above that will flick a switch in your brain??

That's a great post honey, as usual!!!! I can identify with most of that!!

Thanks Flopster! It's so flipping hard isn't it? Why is food so god damn tempting! It's pathetic!

I think for me the attention thing is the biggest thing to keep me going, i never in my wildest dreams thought i'd ever be attractive to men!

The fact you even identify you have put weight on and are doing something about it is fantastic!!

I get annoyed by scientists when they say things like that - How do they know it's only 2% and what are they looking at etc etc.
i know 2 friends who lost weight and are still slim also my CDC lost weight and is still slim - they havent been part of any research so arent included in this 2%. grrrr it annoys me.

As long as you keep on top of any gains you'll stay slim - that's my thoughts anyway. It will be something i always have to work on but now i've found a plan that works i've just got to tell myself i can do it!!!

Oh great post Hels, you are so right, and you've made me feel a lot more positive about keeping the weight off!! I am constantly aware of my binge eating and am doing something about it, so i hope i can nip it in the bud and enjoy being slim and healthy for years to come!!

Thanks again hun,

Karen. I imagine that I am walking on the kerb. One slip and I'll fall on the road. I maybe able to jump back on the kerb, but one day a dirty old bus is going to get me and leave me unconscious and I'll slide right up to where I was.

The problems happen when I think I'm on the pavement and I'm safe.

It will take me a long time to get to that place.

Maintaining is just another stage of the diet for me. I must never get complacent.

One day it'll all be okay, but for the time being, I'm still stuck here on the kerb. That's okay....it sure beats lying in the road!

Karion, what a great post. You are so right when you say that maintaining is just another stage of the diet - abso bloody lutely!! I'm devastated at my 5lbs gain since yesterday, am being brill today and can't wait to jump back on scales tomorrow. If i can be good for one day why the hell can't i be good every day?!?!?!

Thanks for that :)

Because we are human, and every day feels different.

Guess we have to find different strategies for each kind of day:confused:

Hiya Karen,
I think it's important to remember how determined and successful you have been to achieve your goal. You know you don't want to put all that weight back on yet a case of the munchies can undo your hard work. Are you still drinking as much water during maintenance? It has surprised me how easy it has become part of my life so now people at work no longer ask if I want a tea/coffee as they know I'll be carrying around my faithful bottle of water. I love the way it fills you up and can block most day-to-day temptations. I hope when I achieve my goal that I'll continue drinking large volumes of water to keep me in the elite 2%.

Right girlie,
so you have put on 15lbs... what is your plan to get rid of it?

Know this is a blunt post, but it's to get you thinking!! :p

Was it lighterlife or cd you followed?

If it's lighterlife, going back to week three management is always a good idea, rather than going straight into abstinenance as if you did you have nothing to cut down to.. ie week 3 management then wk 2, week 1 and so on...

Not sure how cd maintenance works, would assume it's very similar?

also don't be so hard on yourself, your nipping it in the bud before it gets out of hand:p Don't be like me and leave it to 3-4 stones later!

I have leaned a very valuable lesson since starting LL and Cambridge, and that is to "do as I'm told" Never been my strong point, but I trust my CDC implicitly, and I shall continue to do exactly as she tells me, for as long as it takes. Might sound pathetic, but I've "failed" at maintenance after losing a lot of weight, several times, and this time it's going to be different.
I think being slim when you've been fat is a bit like going blonde. You have to keep on top of the roots or you'll soon be mousy again!!!

Ann
what a lovely way with words you have - I am a yo-yoer and have been slim before and then seriously morbidly obese again within a year - but like you say keep looking in the mirror and keep yourself in check before you are out of control!
Karen - come on you - think positive and get back onto a healthy eating regime - food is your friend and same as with friends you can make wise food choices and stay with those who are on your side - not the ones who love to see you fail and do not support you!
Who do you pick as your friend - a healthy green salad with balsamic vinegar & healthy protein or that evil nasty slimy kebab that destroys your confidence and your body?

Please don't go back to Obesity...................

Hiya Wez

Thanks for your post honey, i drink about 2 litres of water a day so it would probably help if i upped that - i also drink lots of tea and sometimes coke zero so there is room for improvement.

I've been excellent today and i feel very determined, i can't wait to hop on the scales tomorrow cos i am not happy at being 15lbs over target!! I just need 2/3 weeks being perfect on my regime and i'll be back on track. This is my intention from here on in!!!!

Thanks again mate

Oh Geri you are a star!! That is exactly the telling off i need!!! Ouch! :p

Well, i did LL and when i'm good i do quite well losing weight on 3 x LL packs and one healthy meal in the evening. I'm tempted to go back to SS but i suffered terribly with constipation and i really don't wanna be going back there!!!

My plan is 2/3 weeks of perfection on 3 packs plus meal - no binges or going off plan until i'm back under 10 stone!!!! It's gonna be hard but it's my intention and i'm going to do it!!

I've also got an appt with a dietician to discuss my bingeing on 26 September.

Thanks my darling,

Ha ha Ann i love that about being blonde/mousy - very very apt!!!!

I'm pretty much coping on my own (apart from you amazing people), as my LLC isn't that great and i buy my packs one month at a time so i literally go in buy the stuff and leave!!

This is the reason i'm looking for outside help with my binge eating, i think a one on one is what i need!!

I'm so determined not to put any more weight on Ann, i'm strong enough to do it but need to give myself a good shake and get on with it!!

Cheers

Hi Nadine

You have done so well, your pics look amazing in the gallery!!!

I am excellent 5 days out of 7, but the 2 days i go absolutely beserk and eat anything and everything in site - i'll spend 10 pounds on crisps, choc and biscuits and eat the lot - the feeling afterwards is despicable - and today i'm hating myself for yesterday's binge!

My plan is to stick with my plan rigidly until i get back under 10 stones and then re-evaluate the situation from there.

Wish me luck!

Aw Karen :( Been there, done that...outgrown the tshirt. I would be great for a few days and then go bonkers. It was such a habit that I could almost plan it in advance in my dairy, yet when I was being good, it all seemed so easy...then something would snap and it was impossible to stop.

Nothing more to say other than, I know exactly how you feel and lots of hugs.

Karion, that is exactly it honey, the patter is just so obvious i could diarise it too!! how annoying lol.

So my plan for the day is usually 3 packs plus a meal of meat and vegetables followed by an apple and a yoghurt and a cadbury's highlights drink before bed. Halfway though the day i talk myself into having a bit of meat or fruit cos that's allowed right, that won't do any harm whatsoever! So i give in then before i know it i'm in the garage with a basketful of rubbish!! It starts exactly the same way every single time - i just need to be aware of it cos i cannot just stop at an extra bit of meat and fruit - it's pathetic!!

I'm laughing here it's so crazy!!
