A doubter tries it

Hi All,

Thought I would pop in and stop lurking, say hello and post for anyone that was like me - that is someone comletely sceptical about the whole 'food replacement' thing.

Sceptical because a) I love food and HATE synthetic pants shakes (ala Slim Fast) b) Have very little money c) Still have a man in the house to feed and d) it seems too easy for someone like me.

Having read for ages and ages on the different diets, and having the same old story of being overweight for years, not being able to loose it, loosing it, gaining it, faffing around and finally being ready once and for all to loose it forever (in my head), I was struggling with just the normal dieting thing with the OH around. So for ages I had been thinking about LL or something, but was worried about the cost and what him indoors would think, so put it off and put it off. I was also worried it would taste absolutely vile.

Have to say, if you are worried about that, with Exante, don't be - I *really* love my *really good* food, tried Slimfast years ago and gagged on it, but this is completely different. Yum yum yum. The shakes and bars taste like they have very little sugar/sweetness in them, which I personally prefer, don't leave that nasty synthetic taste in your mouth, leave you *really* full, and the variety of bars, shakes and soups I like as I feel like I have had 3 proper meals each day, one of each (usually).

I know I have only been on this for 6 days, but so far I have lost 6lbs! (I know I shouldn't weigh this early, but got all excited!). To be fair - I feel soooooo tired, but then I don't get much sleep as we have two very naughty kittens and a snoring partner, so this doesn't help. But obviously, the far lower calorie intake is making me feel weary tired - not great, but livable with (I'm just holding off exercise for a couple of weeks).

I have not felt hungry at all, I miss mouth food sometimes, but the bars for brekky (for me) help with that, and other than that I am SOOOO happy.

For me, I can abstain easily from things really (I found giving up smoking from a 40 a day habit so easy by completely quitting one day (with the Allan Carr book!) purely I think because I wasn't smoking at all), which I have found a struggle with dieting before as obviously you can't give up food completely. With this not eating 'proper' food thing you can, which was the appeal in the first place.

The reason I finally took the plunge and went for it is because me and the OH are getting married in 6 weeks time, we just went a bit mental and booked the registry office having been engaged for over a year and together for 6, and I decided I did not want to look back at wedding photos and cry being so fat.

So, if anyone is reading about Exante and thinking 'should I, shouldn't I?' - get the small week's pack and try it. Yes it is expensive (if you are on a tight budget like us), but if it works (or at least, so far is appearing to), you can then purchase the larger packs to make it cheaper than it would be to buy proper food from the supermarket.

Good luck to everyone else on their journey, however you may be doing it, and thank you to everyone here who answered loads of my questions without even knowing it :)

hello

Am I allowed to post yet? :S
Sorry, that was because I posted another post, but it didn't seem to post. Oh well.
Hello everyone - I'm new, but have been lurking for a while.
The post that got lost was about how if you are umming and ahhing about trying meal replacement, specicially Exante, to just go for it.
From someone who LOVES their (lovely, fresh, good quality) food, I can hand on heart say I really enjoy most of the shakes and soups, and don't mind the others.
I am getting married in 6 weeks, having only booked it all last week, hence the panic 'have to loose weight so I don't cry when I see the photos' starting diet, but v happy on it.
Have lost 6lbs so far, with a couple of days before WI, so a good start imho :)
Good luck to everyone else on your journeys :)

Good luck on losing weight for your wedding. And welcome. You will get loads of support on here. x

Hi! Good to read such a positive post in the morning :) good luck on your journey xxx

Hiya, well done on your loss so far!
I think exante is cheap. My hubby and I spend about £500 a month on food (no joke....and there is only 2 of us....the baby only has milk) so if I am only spending £100 on my side and he is soon to start WS then we will be quids in for a few months until the weight is off. As I said in a previous thread..lbs lighter and £'s richer!
Good luck with exante and your WI x

I was a sceptical after trying slimfast too. But what the slimfast misses is the ketosis part. They tell you to have a "healthy dinner" but don't really give you ideas on what to have.

I was starving on slimfast (did it for a whole week lol) but on Exante there is no physical hunger pangs whatsoever. I did think to myself... this is going to be like slimfast again... and I did wonder how people seemed to tolerate the shakes n soups quite well. Your taste buds do genuinely adapt!

I've been on Exante for a week now, and where I gave up at this point on Slimfast, I've got no intentions of giving up now.

Well done on your loss.
I like you was very very sceptical. And have not given this diet a proper go. And after day 1 of this diet have always said no im going no I'm going to do Slimfast or WW as I had no faith in myself that I could stick to it. As I have done slimfast before. But after a good think. I'm giving this diet a proper go as I know it works for people on here. So Its day 1 for me today. Good luck and to your weight loss for your wedding.

Thanks guys :)
It has been super useful just lurking for ages, but wanted to post as thought if someone was like me (and a long time lurker) and was thinking about it.

Very strange, just found this longer post - internet gremlins!

Thanks once again for the lovely welcome :D
WI tomorrow, fingers crossed for at least another lb (I know, I know, but it's week 1 - I want a big number just for week 1 lol).

I have merged your first thread with this:)

Good luck with your Exante journey and well done on your 6lb off:happy096:

Very exciting times ahead:love047:

Ah well done, that's a great start. I was worried about the shakes too but really like them, I couldn't stomach slimfast at all. Dh lost a couple of stone on it a few years back but I just couldn't drink it.

6 weeks till you get married, how exciting! :D You could very well be a few sizes smaller by then! :D

Welcome :D

Thank you - I posted the long one first, and then was browsing through the forum, but it didn't appear, and hadn't appeared for a bit, so wondered if there was some time limit or something for posting, hence the second post, then today saw the first one was there - very odd (think my laptop is being naughty lol).
Thanks again :)

Welcome :D

Hope so! Not going to buy my dress until end of March, so only 12 days after that will be wearing it for real, and its not a 'proper' wedding dress (its going to be a Vivien of Holloway 50's style dress), so hopefully won't be too much of a problem.
Tiny bit worried about leaving it too late, but what's the worst that can happen? lol (I'm not particularly fixed on a particular colour/print, so am flexi girl on it all)

Hiya,I thought I would comment as im getting married in 6 weeks also ,pretty stressful doing a diet and stressing about a wedding eh,I think you have done the right thing about your dress,I only ordered mine 4 weeks ago and won't be ready for another four weeks also gave the added pressure of having it a size smaller than I am now:( talk about pressure lol.anyway good luck tour dress sounds Lovley I was going to go 50 s style but felt crapwhen o tried it on so have gone completely different and gone for a black corset instead:)
