converting sugar to sweetner?

Can anyone tell me when converting a non SW friendly recipe how to work out how much sweetner to use instead of sugar....for example how much would 25g sugar be in sweetner?

i only know that splenda is meant to be like-for-like.

that said, i find sweeteners to be too artificial-tasting to swap fully. i prefer to use honey, applesauce, mashed banana, etc in addition to a smaller amount of sweetener.

I always go off the fact that 5g of sugar is 1 teaspoon, so to get the equivalent of 25g sugar, measure out 5 teaspoons splenda

Wouldn't go with 'like for like' - i think this is for volume, not weight

yes you are better off using cup or spoon measurements, as it will be the same amount of sweetener as sugar.

You can't really convert grams for grams as sweetener weighs far less than sugar.

I always find I need to use a fair bit less sweetner than sugar. Even in tea - I'd have one teaspoon sugar, but only a very small half of sweetner :-/

If you look on the splenda website you will find some guidance on how much sweetener to use in place of sugar

definately go for volume not weight - sweetner weighs next to nothing, so you could end up with some awfully sweet things if you matched it gramme for gramme.

I find it a whole lot sweeter anyway, so usually use half too, but then add more if I think I need it - I work on the principle that I can always add more, but can't take it away!

Also something to bear in mind, is to only use splenda or sucralose type sweetener if baking/heating. You will find you get a horrid bitter taste with other type sweeteners, especially aspartame once heated.
