Support for target members

Brightonrosie

I want to be fitter again
I have just been reading a thread by someone who was fed up that a bigger person than her always got STW. It made me start thinking. . what support and encouragement have others got from group once they get to target? I left the group and hence put on some weight but i got absolutley no support during the weekly weight discussion other than Oh yes you are at target!!! No praise or recogntion for staying there. Felt very demotivated about going.

that's really a shame. it's the target members we should be hearing from most! i think SW should do a regular "target members spotlight", where (if you are happy to) you could stand up and share with the group about your journey and how you are doing now.

i really think one of the big flaws with image therapy is that, especially if the groups are big (which SW wants them to be! and consultants are paid by the member so, so do they!) then you have to rush thru it and can't hear properly from people, and people may not get the support they need. i'd love to see them try some new things.

incidentally getting to target on WW 9 years ago is what started my immediate upward journey, with me ultimately 40 lbs heavier than where i started on WW in the first place! a friend of mine from WW used to say she didn't think they even really wanted to support you at target because at that point you're not paying and it is a business. cynical, but perhaps a point. supporting target members should be a real emphasis.

good luck brightonrosie and don't give up...

When I was a target member at WW the leader would ask me to give the ladies who were struggling advice. She'd say 'Becky you're a target member what do you think?' it did give you a buzz every week and members would come up to you and ask how much you'd lost etc!

at the meeting i go to there are 4 or 5 target members and they are always called upon for advice and ideas etc. we still give as much praise to them as to losing members because i imagine its harder to maintain a target as it is to lose. they help us a lot and wouldn't be without them.

Yeah target members are really appreciated at my group to, consultant always encourages them to give ideas and advice when people have questions or are struggling. They also participate in the loss/gain section of group! I love target members especially those that have lost loads - very inspirational!

I love watching the expressions on the newbies faces when they hear how much the target members have lost i think it is so inspirational to us and them

As others have said, target members are really appreciated in our group .. in fact I can't wait to be a target member so I can feel as valued. One of them was away for a couple of weeks last month and I really missed her input in the group discussions which I think says a lot :) When I get to target I will DEF keep going to class because I love it, it will keep me motivated and I want to join the people I idolise now in motivating the rest of the group :)

I am the only regularly attending target member at my group. I do get asked a lot about stuff - which is ok if I know the answer but I dont always :D

I emailed SW to ask about stickers for target members, say 1 month, 2 months etc because I do think they should do more to encourage people once they are at target to help maintain, after all, target members are excellent advertising for the plan - and they said they would consider it but nothing ever came of it.

Well, as an on-line member, my service sucks at target!

In 2 weeks the annual membership I signed up for a year ago runs out, and despite being a target member who has paid for 3 years on the trot, my membership and access to the site will be cancelled unless I pay the normal fees again- this is especially annoying as they featured my story on the website to market the plan

In addition, when I input my weight every week if I sts (which is perfect at target) I get a generic 'never mind, you might lose some next week' message.

It makes no concessions at all to the fact that i am a target member- even the food diary still only allows me 1 each HEX a and b...

*makes an annoyed face*

..........and relax!

That really is terrible about the online service.

I've only just got to target, but I go to group, so I get free membership for continuing to go, so still have free access to the website. The programming does seem a little limited - you have the ability to enter a PAT, you have a line on the graph that show's you've met target, you get an online target "sticker" - so why cant it give you a "congratulations, you've stayed within your target range" message! The fact that online members lose their access unless they keep paying is shocking!

I dont have much experience of what group is like at target, but my consultant already comes to me quite a lot (probably cos I know so much by being on minimins all the time)

I agree though - you dont get much to look forward to with the traditional rewards - you arent likely to get slimmer of the week, you wont get any more chances to win things like the greatest loser contest (I was 1lb short of being our group's winner, but will have no chance of ever winning it again). I guess you still have a chance of winning miss slinky/woman of the year - but I think people are more likely to vote for people that they see as having continuous good losses.

Maybe a competition just for target members would be nice (and with there being just a few in most groups you stand a better chance of winning!)

And I'd love to be able to keep getting stickers for something - I can theoretically get one more sticker (I can get to 3 1/2 stone and still be within my target range) - but thats it - got all my Body Magic awards already.

I love the idea of time at target stickers! I wonder how many cosultants would bother to buy them though as they aren't earning any money from them?

When I was at target my consultant always used to tell the newbies how much I'd lost etc and didn't find the support any less than while I was getting there! Even now in image therapy my consultant tells all the newbies about me and my journey....she is always really pleased for target members who keep coming.

To me, I think image therapy is more useful to me at target than while I'm losing. It's so much harder to keep it off than get it off!

Just looking at another post someone mentioned a Top Target Member competition -when does that happen? I've been at SW for a year now and havent seen that one - but then our group was quite new, so it could be there werent any target members so the consultant didnt need to mention it.

I can't remember when it was, back end of each year for sure and we've had it every year for many years (I've been going a long time!).
