Just wondering how many if any of you discussed this diet with your GP and what they said? X

I had to see my GP recently and explained to him I was on a VLCD, he asked me questions about it, genuinely interested in my answers and he was happy for me to carry on and congratulated me on tackling my weight.

I have seen 3 GPs coz its a big practice and they have all said to carry on I suppose it`s cheaper than me asking a gastric band lol. I did ask for a gastric band in the summer though I never followed it up ROFL. One of them gave me medication for my knee that wouldn`t cause probs with the diet :). Just to add she is a size 6 or 8. Am sure she though poor girl needs this lol.

..............I couldn't care less what my GP thinks about me being on this diet. I never go to the Docs so when I do it's because I am proper poorly but I went about 1 year ago with several problems that he dismissed as all being to do with my weight and before I had finished telling him everything he said that the 10 minutes was up and that I had to make another appointment if I wished to discuss anything else. I vowed that I would never go back again as he made me feel so insignificant.

Bernice, time to find a new GP. I wouldn't hesitate to switch GP. These people are paid a bloody fortune, so should be able to do their job without being unpleasant. What a twonk.

That's appalling. I work with doctors and some of the older ones are very arrogant and need bringing down a peg or two.

Find a new practice sharpish doll x

Bernice, that is terrible, that he made you feel like that!

Not all docs are like that though, so do go again if you ever need to, just ask to see a different one ;) xx

Thanks Ladies for your kind words............another reason I don't want to go back is so that he can give himself a pat on the back for being so instrumental in my weight loss. Whereas in fact it had nothing to do with him. I did it when I was ready. I used to have a wonderful family Doctor and I am finding it so difficult to adjust to the new generation of disinterested Doctors whose sole aim is to get you in & out as quickly as possible.

After being on Lipotrim for two months I went to my GP and he was so supportive he said I was an inspiration to others and wished me luck in getting all my excess weight off, which was really a boost and since losing weight I am off Insulin and dont need any other treatment for my diabetic other than two tablets a day so therefore saving on the costs of all the meds needles etc that I used to be on. Hope this helps

That's the kind of Doctor I want..............now all I have to do is find one. Lol xx

Yeah my doctor is a complete arsehole. I have very bad supination (feet lean over onto the outside of my foot when I walk) and he refused point blank to refer me to a podiatrist for an assessment/advice, and told me to go lose some weight..

Despite the fact I told him that I was trying, but I have been in complete agony with my heel pain... What a nonce.

They are meant to be there to help! I'm still waiting to be referred to the back specialist. 2 months I've been waiting! Sucks x

Bernice, your doctor is disgusting  - they are paid more than the Prime Minister, and work less hours now than they have ever done! Find a new GP pronto.

As for mine...I had to see the GP before I started Lighter Life, and have not been back since, so they don't know how I've done!!! :8855:

my old GP was fine with and even booked me a bi-weekly appointment to get weighed and discuss my progress! the kind of family doctor who cycles round our area for 2 hours on his days off to see his patients who require ongoing care (like my gran) just for a quick chat about how they're feeling etc!

but he retired last month and now we have some new barely out of uni prat who seems to think anything you suggest is utter bollocks because you havent got a medical degree  im actually considering changing GP's because of their arrogance!

emergency out of hours GP's get paid £40ph where I live!!

I used to work in an out of hours surgery and most of ours were on £100 ph sometimes as high as 200.

It's unbelievable how many unsupportive GPs there are, my GP blames everything on my weight but on the few occasions I've asked for support with it she says "oh you don't need anything just eat 3 Small meals and go to the gym everyday" now if I could do that I wouldn't be like this!!! Hopefully one day I will!

Forgot to say. I went to the doctors about my contraception the other day. Saw the nueee who did the usual bp and weighed me. To which she goes 'you dont need me to tell you your overweight' to which I replied with: well atleast ive lost 4 stone. And she comes back with: yeah I suppose. In a tone which meant she couldnt care less. Stupid woman. Theyre happy to preace to us but im sure if it was the other way round they couldnt like it. Especially as I was early to my appointment and saw said nurse smoking in her car before the surgery opened. Garhh

...................that sort of thing happens all of the time. My neice had a gastric band fitted and had lost A LOT of weight but she was having dizzy spells so went to her GP. He diagnosed a condition that is weight related and suggested that she lost weight..................to which she responded well I've already lost 11 stone so how come I didn't have this illness when I was that much more overweight?????? He didn't even apologise.

its frightening to think that stuff can go misdiagnosed, or ignored completely, because someone is overweight. Things can happen with your body that AREN'T weight related too.

I've got several medical problems... thanks to an overactive immune system (severe psorasis, arthritis, ibs) and manys a time I've been put down because of my weight. Its almost a blessing that my arthritis is the worst in my wrists/hands/elbows - the only places you can't put down to weight issues...

It's very frustrating and it makes you feel like you are making it up because these people won't take you seriously... they obviously don't think we try to lose weight at all... which is the most infuriating part!!!

I would have said 'and you don't need me to tell you that smoking kills' cheeky cow.
