Hello!

I've not been doing any excercise other than my usual 1 hour long walk with the dog every day. I'm slightly afraid to take up jogging again as I have heard that any damage to your muscles can make you retain water hence a gain or a STS.

Anyone found this to be true and does it last long??? :whacky068:

I am not doing any exercise until I have got my Club 10...........I want to see the weight coming off first....it's slow enough as it is :D

Funny you should say that cos that is what I was thinking! Lose the 10% then start to tone! However if exercise will speed up weight loss - then I'm in!

I run, but did before starting SW, to me maybe the losses may be slower but more toned ;)

I also walk 6 miles a day:(, 4 school runs at 1 1/2 mile each way, without counting any outings to tots and things lol! my choice, too tight to drive and don't fancy loading kids in the car/out the car/ in the car lol................

I do Yoga, callanetics and I walk the dogs every day too. I know it makes a big difference. I am actually heavier than I want to be on the scales but I am more toned and slimmer than I was at a lower weight with no exercise.... if that makes sense!!!

It does. I think I will shift some noticeable weight and then think about toning! I have some funky new running shoes I need to break in!

Has anyone had any success using a wii? I've got wii fit and just dance collecting dust (even as i type I'm thinking it can be no worse than the nothing I do now but still interested to hear others experiences).

I used to do a zumba class and need to find a new one, would really recommend it - its the most fun I've ever had exercising!

Well theres a zumba keep fit game for the wii its released 4th march! :) u get a belt with it too to help count cals n moves im assumin! Looks good! Im tempted to pre order xx

I have just started Kettlebell and really enjoy it

I do a one-to-one session at a gym which is specially tailored to my age and health issues, with exercises which I can carry on doing at home during the rest of the week.

And I walk as much as I can.

I don't know whether this is good or bad as far as weight loss is concerned - I suspect that it doesn't make any difference at all - but I do know that the exercise makes me feel better.

When I couldn't get out because the snow was so bad I really missed the walking. And if I have to miss a session at the gym for any reason, I really notice the difference.

I am running twice a week and going to the gym once a week now. Take my dog on a 5 mile walk over the weekend too!

Don't fear exercise, it's not going to make you gain weight, it's only going to be good for you. And as the SW book itself says, exercise can help to boost your losses.

The body can retain water to repair muscles, but that depends entirely on what kind of exercise you do. Jogging is mostly cardiovascular, so isn't likely to be too much of a strain on your muscles in the same way a weights class would.

If you started exercising now it's only going to help you get to your target that bit quicker - why put off till tomorrow something you can start today?!

I do 2 aerobics classes a week and try to fit another gym session in too. But I have done this for years, its not a new thing since i started SW in January. I do it because I enjoy it and feel better when I've done it - I dont think it has an impact on my weight loss, I just see it as an added health benefit. Although saying that, I was dreaing the scales last week because I couldnt get to the gym all week and had fallen off the plan a few times and I lost 3lbs! So sometimes there seems no logical reasoning to it but exercise is defo a good thing in the long run and I think SW is about the long term and being healthy for life.

I'm doing the Rebecca Wheatley: the new me workout dvd (she use to play Amy in Casualty)
Shes lost 12 stone through Slimming world and exercise.
The DVD is a great work out, you end up with a right sweat on but tones at the same time.
I try do it every night with Saturdays off, along with my two mile walk to work each day, i'm defo seeing results, WI on Friday so i'll update how well i've done this week :) x

Exercise

Hi, After I lost about a stone I started doing 8 miles a day on the exercise bike I had tried to sell before. Boy am I glad nobody wanted to buy it I've now lost 3st 2lb so far. I do 4 miles in the morning and the rest later in the day. I find easy to do either put on some music and cycle in time. At the speed I cycle it takes about 15 mins for 4 miles. I'm sure it has hekped so I feel guilty if I do do it.

Thanks ye'all.

I am def going to be doing more excercise I just wanted to see the scales drop first, that way I know it's down to my eating healthy and not the upping of exercise.

Hoping the eather is nice this weekend and I am going Hill climbing with my OH on Sat! Looking forward to it!

Will be getting back into my fancy trainers soon, can't afford not to!

i've been exercising throughout but since my weight loss has slowed down this past few weeks i've dug out my gillian michaels 30 day shred from the biggest loser. its 20 mins of pure fast paced exercise and i'm doing it everyday for 30 days.i'm really enjoying it and the exercises are easy enough for me to do it even while the kids are hanging around playing during half term week, bonus lol.

Great thread! N1ck1 - can you tell me a little more about the Callanetics please?
I have the really old video, bought it off amazon, but have never actually used it.:ashamed0005: Think I started it, but felt like I wasn't really doing anything. Is it a slow burner? Toning is def the way I want to go - as well as burning off, of course!
