Help with letter of complaint

lazorinie

wants a body to love!
Hi!

I need help with what to write in a letter of complaint.

Basically i got engaged yesterday and we drove to birmingham (2hr drive each way) to get a ring cos they are cheaper. I chose a mount & diamond and had it made. Looked fine in shop. Halfway home i noticed a dot/hole in the bottom of the ring, so i looked closer and noticed damage to one of the shoulders, a few dints. I was gutted, but the shop was closed so i couldnt call when i got home.

We decided they would probably offer replacment/repair but didnt want to post and not driving again. So i have taken it to a jewellers here who i trust and they are fixing it obv at a cost to us. My jeweller said they have clamped it to tight when putting the diamond in casuing the damage.

I just dont know what to write, how to approach it e.g. nice but dissapointed or just plain mad (which i am) and what should i expect?

Thanks for any help or advice x

:sigh:

I've no idea as I'm rubbish with letters but Congratulations on your engagement XXX

Congrats on your engagement hun!!! I'd just write saying that you'd heard that they give great service and beautiful jewellery (butter them up a bit) which is why you travelled so far to get your ring from them. Therefore they can understand why you were so upset to see damage to said ring and you are sure that they will go out of their way to see that you get the ring you should be proud of. You can tell them that as they were closed you've taken the ring to another jeweller who has advised the problem and are fixing it (although I personally think maybe you should have given them the opportunity to put things right first but can understand how disappointed you were). I'd end by suggesting that as a gesture of goodwill they pay the bill to the other jeweller or even make another one for you, at no cost to you. Hope that helps and good luck x

I would start with the basics, saying you are disappointed with your purchase. You drove 100miles away as they were recommended (lie a little) to you. You have had to take it to a local jewellers and attach a photocopy of the receipt, did you take any pictures of the ring in its naff state?

Good luck x

I'm not entirely sure but I think they might be able to refuse to compensate you for the repair because you chose to go elsewhere. I think you have to give the company the opportunity to rectify a problem and you failed to do that.

hmmmm seems we're all on the same wavelength folks :)

HHmmmm.... i know they would offer to repair or replace but i dont want to send my ring in the post. They have website which is how i found them but didnt want it posted which is why we drove there. TBH im not bothered if they dont compensate my costs and not sure if id trust them fixing it. Just wanted to let them know how dissapointed i am.
Didnt take any pictures :( should of!
