what do you reckon?

I'm going to London next week for 2 nights (three days) with my bf and friends.. As we're in a hotel and trying to do it on the cheap I reckon it's going to be mostly take away, mcdonalds, sandwhiches.. All food that of course I'd love to eat.. But will ruin my diet for that week.. Now, apart from a couple of syns a day that I've had (1 or 2) I don't feel deprived so I could go without from now till tues and then from thurs toll my next weigh in on weds.. I will try and be as sensible as possible, but i don't want to be sat there miserable while everyone else is eating a curry.. Or pizza.. Or burger..

So, I was wondering if I have say 20 syns this week and 20 after London for emergencies or whatever.. How much weight do you think I'd gain eating rubbish for 3 days (plus wine and slimline g&t's)

I know it's not going to be pretty, but 2 pounds, 4 pounds, half a stone.. I have no idea!

At any of the places you think you might be eating, would there not be healthier options? I wouldn't know personally, but I have heard that McDonalds do salads, for instance.

Or you could eat, say, only the burger and leave the bun and everything else.

You say "i don't want to be sat there miserable while everyone else is eating a curry.. Or pizza.. Or burger.."

You are telling yourself in advance that you will be miserable if you don't do what everyone else does, but if you tell yourself instead that you will be happy making healthy choices, that will be a much more positive mindset to take with you.

a large fish from the chip shop is free if you take the batter off.. muchy peas to go with it are superspeed..
large chicken kebab meat is only 7 syns.. ( you could take your own HeB pittas with you.. ) and salad is free..
if you want cheap then a tesco express etc and buy bread and ham / turkey / chicken etc for sandwiches etc ( you can use your HeB pita and maybe some LCL triangles? )..

Yes there are probably healthier options wherever we go but I don't think there's many who could say they wouldn't feel deprived eating a salad sat across from someone with a big mac.. I enjoy making healthy choices and seeing the weight come off don't get me wrong and when I can get a baked potato and beans I will but I will end up indulging at some point or another - not because I'm being negative but because I want to and I'm willing to accept a couple of pounds gain.. And I'm happy to be careful before and after as damage limitation..

I will be making as many healthy options S possible, wholemeal bread, fruit and cereal for breakfast.. But a holiday is not a holiday without a few treats..

I really hope that it doesn't seem I'm going into this with completely the wrong attitude.. I suppose part of it is a control issue I'd rather plan for a blowout than plan to eat well, slip and feel guilty..

When I was going to group, my consultant once told me...

"If you had 7 red roses, and one died, you would just throw away that one dead one, and enjoy the remaining 6 beautiful ones".

Therefore, if you are going to have 3 days where you are going to treat yourself, choose wisely, and just make sure that you make the other 4 days the best you can.

If you are honest with yourself and choose wisely, you might be surprised when you jump on the scales.

Good luck, and enjoy yourself x

This post sounds a lot more positive than your first one, and I am sorry if I have misjudged you.

I think you should go and have a really good time, and any damage done can easily be repaired when you come back. Enjoy yourself.

(Actually I wouldn't feel deprived eating a salad sitting across from someone eating a Big Mac. You couldn't pay me to eat one of those things!!)

don't limit yourself with syns this week, they don't carry over and not having enough this week may have a negative impact on your losses..

I don't feel misjudged, don't worry - it was me obviously not articulating myself well enough..

I wish I didn't love a big mac.. Although I'm hoping that now I'm out of the habit a mcdonalds won't be as appetising.. I wish the same could be said for pizza though.. Pizza will never seem unappetising I'm sure :)

So you think I should eat normally this week till Tuesday.. Then count that as a new weigh in and therefore syn week? Then restrict my syns when I get back until my next weigh in?

yes.. not restrict as such, but keep within your weekly allowance if you can..

take note of what you eat while away and stick to the healthiest options that you want to ( so have the pizza, but a small thin crust veggie one rather than a large deep dish with pepperoni and extra cheese... yum!! :( ), then tally up the damage when you get back and plan round that..
as for being a bit harsh on you earlier, you didn't say that this was a holiday, so we assumed it was a necessity hence the advice to carry on as normaly as you could.. absolutely enjoy yourself if it's a holiday..

Persuade the gang to have a meal in China Town! Then you can choose your food wisely and use up your syns on vino collapso!

Please don't take offence anyone! It's a joke between op and me ;)

Have a great holiday hun! Be mindful of what passes the lips because you know what that means ;)

Let's see what the scales say when you come home :D

Thanks :) sorry if I seemed offended or defensive.. I didn't mean to, but just 'talking' it through has helped me organise my thoughts a little bit.. I need to separate 'holiday' from 'everyday' I'm happy to be sensible and I'm happy to accept restricting myself a little when I return and I'm happy to accept a small gain the wi after I get back..

What I won't do is eat for the sake of it.. Only when hungry.. And I will enjoy what I eat.. And I will be walking lots!!
