How come?

Runs with scissors
A pondering thought I had today.

How come it's ok to purée veggies (soup) but not purée fruit without having to syn it?

I think of it in terms of how much you could gorge on!! as the general principles are guided by appetite satisfaction. I could probably eat super amounts of puree'd apple or other fruit but couldn't possibly eat so much of any puree'd veg or even veg soup (and I love soup!). So it's a rule to limit you from over-eating.

Fruit has a lot of natural sugars as well, I always assumed that digesting whole fruit burned more calories than pureed... Or something! Makes sense in my head :)

You would consume a lot more sugars and calories from pureed fruit than veg.

It is all worked out by the SW team so guess we need to trust that they have reasons behind this rule.

Oh I am sure there are reasons, I was just wondering what they were. Perhaps also there is a lot of water involved in soup and not so much with fruit.

You're probably right about the water, loralou! Soup works out at a bigger volume than you originally started with - but pureed fruit works out at a smaller one.

This came up in my last meeting and my C said it was due to the natural sugars in fruit and how our bodies break down that sugar. Apparently if you cook or puree fruit it breaks down the sugar so that our bodies do not have to. It does not apply vegetables due to their low sugar contents.
