Scottie's Exante Journey - Phase 2!

The night before day 1

Well hello there everyone! I’ve been lurking for a wee while and posting now and again whilst coming to a decision about how to shift the remainder of my wobbles. After reading all your inspirational diaries I’ve decided to start Exante and it’s D-Day tomorrow! I’ve never tried a VLCD before or experienced ketosis so it should be interesting. I really need the weight loss boost though as I’ve been messing about for ages and getting really slow results on “counting” type plans. It’s time for a good kick up the bum and I’m thinking that a food ban for a while is the way to go. Will be trying a month for starters and then will take it from there. Will probably switch back to WW pro-points when I get closer to my goal weight but I guess that’s not really a concern for now lol :p

So in preparation for tomorrow I have my packs and bars, my shaker with a metal whizzer ball thingy, and my ketostix. I’ll be popping into the supermarket at some point to pick up bullion and permitted diet drinks tomorrow.

Will update tomorrow evening on day 1 – wish me luck ;)

Thanks Billie - I can't wait to get started actually!

Have just checked my BMI and it's currently 35 :( (obese). I guess I was in the morbidly obese category before but I still have a long way to go before I get into that healthy weight range... Roll on exante losses!

Good luck and welcome! xx

Good luck and welcome! xx

Thank you!

Well, am just finishing my first banana shake before setting off for work and I have to say I quite like it! Am wondering how hungry I'm going to feel at work but have a busy day so am hoping that keeping myself occupied will help. Have my bar packed for lunch (hoping that will be a bit less conspicuous if I "eat" something with a coffee). Will check in again tonight.

Wow - so it's day 1, and I think I need to start by taking my hat off to all you folks who have been on exante for any length of time. I am STARVING and at the moment my challenge is simply to survive the rest of the day - so far have been 100% but jeez it's hard.

I have tbh, I wasn't that keen on the bar that I had for lunch which was a shame coz that was what I was most looking forward to. It tasted a bit plasticy and it took about half an hour for me to chew through. Do people find they get used to the flavour?

Am also wondering how people cope with the headachey/weak/fuzzy feeling? I know it's just my body crying out for carbs/calories/junk but it's hard going. I'm seriously considering heading to bed early just to survive the day...

Please tell me it gets easier peeps! Although I'm a bit worried about the dreaded day 5 if I'm feeling like this on day 1...

I have been ok so far - no hunger pains as such. (apart from a bit of an upset tummy). I have half a bar in the morning then the other at lunch time. They take a bit of putting away, I imagine its what MDF wood stuff is like to chew.

Keep up the good work. Its hard but worth it!!

Well I survived day 1 at 100%. Yesterday (day 2) was quite difficult too but for different reasons... I woke up not feeling hungry at all which was nice, but later in the day had a very upset tummy and spent quite a bit of time in the loo :( By the time I got home from work I felt pretty ill and couldn't face another shake so I made a light omlette for dinner. Am sad that I didn't even make it past day 2 100% but figure that it would be a WS day and that my overall calorie intake would still be really quite low. Still hoping for some good losses.

Feeling a bit better today, although tummy is still a bit crampy. Just finishing off banana shake now then need to get ready for work.

One other thing I've noticed is a strange metallic taste in my mouth and I wouldn't imagine I'm anywhere near ketosis yet on the morning of day 3 (and having eaten a mountain of carbs as a "last supper" before I started). It's quite gross but am hoping that it'll pass...

Hi Scotminx,

Well done for getting so far and for managing to make a good choice on the food.

It does get easier - the weak feeling passes once your in ketosis; the hunger goes too (try drinking more water if your feeling hungry) but the metallic taste does get stronger and doesn't go in my experience - I keep a gold spot spray with me at all times to try and get rid of it!

Keep at it, you'll be in ketosis before you know it!

Thanks Chobe and Joanne for the encouragement. Day 3 not so bad, seems like it's gradually getting easier. Am wondering how I'll cope at the weekend as having the routine/distractions with work seems to have helped. I still have an upset tummy though :sigh: probably getting way more nutrients than I'm used to!!

Roll on day 4!

Excellent job so far!

How are you finding the bars now? When I started I really didn't get on with them but now they are my favourite.

Well, here I am again :wave_cry:. Didn't make it very far last time at all (only 1 day TS 100%) and then fell off the wagon. Messed about with various diets and exercise and yo-yoed for a few months. Then suddenly it was 6 weeks until my holiday, I had an awful day shopping where I just cried as I couldn't find anything that even looked decent and I thought - ENOUGH!

So, on 05/07/11 I dusted off the ol' exante products that I bought back in Feb - the bars I'd bought had expired :( but the shakes and soups were still good. And I've been back on the wagon since :flirt2:. Feel like I'm in the zone this time (don't think I was quite ready back in Feb) and am committed to a 4 week TS/WS blitz with NO alcohol . That alone should have the weight falling off me lol...

In terms of how it's been so far, days 1 and 2 were not too bad, but days 3 and 4 I was exhausted and headachy. Now day 5 and ketosis is here according to my ketostix :D, however, I'm feeling really nauseous today and quite tired again now (I woke up with loads of energy and zero appetite but seem to have gone downhill a bit again).

I really hope that I start to feel a bit more normal soon. The waves of nausea are currently so bad that I'm not sure I could manage another pack right now. Will see how I'm feeling at dinner time.

I also see from the boards that lots of people seem to have started/re-started at around the same time as me so I'm hoping there'll be oodles of support around :) xx

Ok, so just had the ultimate test of my willpower! Family are round and they decided to order chinese. They asked if I'd be ok with it if they ordered chinese for tea with me being here - I said "of course it's fine, life can't change all around me while i'm dieting". So, the food comes, smells amazing and then a relative sits right next to me on the sofa whilst munching my favourite dish (to be fair there were no other seats free, and I said again that it was fine).

Mannnn it was hard to sit through someone eating so close to me! I felt so nauseous earlier that I didn't think I could face another pack, but as soon as the thought of real food was introduced my stomach started growling at me!!! I also had various thoughts about snatching something off their plate and shoving it in my mouth, or even just about grabbing the whole plate and running off with it into a corner!!! Mwhahahaha....

HOWEVER, I willed myself through it, not a morsel passed my lips and now I've had my last shake for the day and I'm feeling very proud of myself!! Roll on day 6 :D :D :D

Hey

Well done on biting the bullet and restarting. Another day or so and you should feel fit as a fiddle. I was quite lucky, I didn't suffer too much other than a few stonkers of headaches. Feeling great now and have even started to exercise:eek: again.

Good luck getting your first week under your belt, just think how fabulous you will feel once you get that first weight loss:D

Thanks Fiesty! I'm really hoping that the side effects pass soon once I'm well and truly on the K wagon. Today has started well - no headaches or nausea, lots of energy and no hunger pangs. Have also just enjoyed my morning chocolate shake (they seem to get nicer every day!). However, will have to see how it goes around mid-day as this is when my energy has typically taken a dip/headaches gotten worse, etc. Am crossing my fingers though that this might be a good day for me! Hoping to channel some of this energy into gutting my house lol...

Well done on getting back to exercise - that's fab. What sort of exercise have you been doing? I'd be keen to get back to it once I'm feeling like my old self again in terms of energy, etc but do wonder about what will feel manageable. I had been doing body combat classes pre-exante but these are brutal at the best of times (although lots of fun and a great work-out) - not sure that I could cope with that intensity just yet.

So excited about Tuesday's weigh in now!!! :D

Hi scotminx i think you are my twin lol. I also started in february but fell after a week so decided enough was enough and restarted, this is day 5. Fingers crossed I can last more than a week, if I dont then my lovely wedding dress wont fit. Hopefully we can keep each other on the straight and narrow xx

I think we must be twins! And we're both scots too ;)

You CAN last more than a week - you're already on day 5, and you will look STUNNING in your wedding dress. When's the big day???

I think keeping each other on the straight and narrow sounds like a good plan! :D
