Why Cambridge :S

Hey everyone, I really don't want to be a downer  but I've been talking to my friend who's on Slimming World and she's losing about 3lbs a week, as are all the others in her weekly weigh in class. My CDC said I'll be losing about 3lbs a week on average from now on! The difference is - on SW they can pretty much eat as much as they want!!! They can eat unlimited meat, eggs, pasta, potatoes, fruit, veg...the only thing that is limited is junk food, cooking sauces and alcohol.

Why am I paying £40 per week to not eat when I'd be losing the same amount eating all I want of some lovely nutricious dishes?

I've been 100% on SS for nearly 4 weeks now, and I am liking the results, but the cost and the lack of social eating is a bit of a bummer particularly if the losses aren't any more than they would be on SW.

What are peoples' thoughts?

I know the benefit of CD is that it takes you away from temptation altogether by cutting out food completely, but if that's the only benefit....I'm starting to think I really can't justify the cost to myself.

Can people think of other benefits of CD? Reasons I shouldn't just work up the plans now then move onto SW?

Hope someone can help, I'm just in a dilemma right now!!

(oh they also limit dairy and bread...but limit not cut out completely)

Oh and I might add in case its mentioned that healthy eating is just as costly - generally when I'm eating, my food cost is all covered by my OH, so I'd probably be spending no more than £10/£20 a week absolute max!

I wonder about this too... but the way I see it, this is my choice, I've made it, and I will bloody well stick with it! So many people I see say that their downfall and the reason they do no succeed is because they jump from one diet plan to the next after the initial buzz and excitement of the first few weeks has worn off.

So... yes, there may many different weight loss plans out there, many of which can give great results, and I may not have chosen the "easiest" or "best", but I chose it and for that reason I'm sticking to the bitter end! At the end of the day, it is working, and it is possible, so what more do I need? :)

Yeah I understand what you're saying - just why do it the hard way for the same results :S prob will try and finish my 12 weeks SS if I can afford it, and then move up the plans and go on to SW for the last 2 or 3 stone x

The main reason I do it is that I do not get consistent 3 pound losses on Slimming World. I haven't tried Weight Watchers but I imagine it to be pretty similar. I think they say you should expect 1-2 pounds. I lost three times as much weight on Cambridge in the same time period as I did on Slimming World.

ooh ok....that is encouraging! I will defo save it for the last couple of stone then, when I'm BMI 26 or something and just have a bit to lose :)

when i done ww a few years back i stuck to it 100% for 3 months and lost 1stone 2lbs i was trying so hard but because the losses were so slow i gave up however ive been on this diet for 5 weeks and have lost 1stone 9lbs :) i no which i choose. saying that tho once i am at goal i will be going to ww/sw but just to maintain.

My reason for CD is because I had a problem with bingeing on food. Even when I was on sw or ww I binged on the foods I was allowed. And so never lost anything. I needed a complete break from conventional foods. That and the fact u get such good losses. The average loss Is 4lbs a week on SS and SS+. Around a stone a month. No other ordinary diet apart from VLCD's give as much losses so quick. I've lost 13lbs in 2 weeks..
So for me CD is helpin me to train my brain into healthier eating by going up the plans. And hopefully to cut out the binges. I am hoping to loosely follow ww to maintain once I reach goal.
And as for the cost, if u were attending ww or sw, by the time you'd lost what u could on cd you'd nearly be out as much money with weekly fees. And for me the results outweigh the costs by far :) xx

Love this thread, I am starting to get a bit bored again, but then I remembered I can't do sw,as like someone else said I still binge on the free foods and therefore don't get the loses.
Even on a blip week on cd I am in far more control, and as for the money I save on a lot on not snacking, and our tesco bill has certainly gone down a little bit.
I cannot kid myself any longer, cd is the only diet I can do.x

Its really rare for most people to get 3pound loses a week - id say her loses will no doubt slow down soon - and she'll be on 1-2 max.

I know dozens of people that average about 1/2pounds on SW max.

My losses on SW and WW were really small, 4lbs 1st week, then 1lb, 1.5lb, +2lb...really really slow and soul destroying. I am feeling the financial pinch with CD now, and as my losses are diminishing questioning the cost. But it is wonderful for quick losses, and even though I've had blip after blip, I've never actually put any weight ON (which occured really often on SW and WW).

Your friend might be having a loss like that just now but Id be absolutely amazed if it keeps at that rate. The average losses for SW are 1 - 2lbs a week and she should enjoy her 3lbs while she can ;) At least on a VLCD you know the losses will keep coming. If you look at the SW forum there are a huge number of posts about STS for several weeks or losing 3lbs in 5 weeks.

My reason is I eat far too much portion control even if it's a salad is way too big! Also
Want faster results!

I've done sw in the past and lost 6 1/2 stone and my average was 3.25 lbs a week which at the time was fab, but I've been back on it a week and have gained 9 lbs so far like someone has already said I binge in the free foods like fruit and ml yoghurts I can go through so much fruit it's costing me a fortune where as cd I'd spend 40 a week and that was it I lost 4st 1lb in 11 weeks.

Great thread:

I have portion control issues. I am not losing all that fast with CD; it would be even slower on SW or WW.

I am soo much better with "No" -- than "just a little". Since I do not eat out any more, I think I am saving money by doing CD.

I had a friend who did LL and she said that between not having (family) takeaways and having to stop drinking/social eating -- she came out way ahead. And that was at 66 pounds a week!

thanks for all your replies, its been really useful! :) definitely sticking with Cambridge for the foreseeable future - my OH even said he'll pay half! Sorted!! :D xx

on SW they can pretty much eat as much as they want!!! They can eat unlimited meat, eggs, pasta, potatoes, fruit, veg...the only thing that is limited is junk food, cooking sauces and alcohol.

Keep this line of thinking and you will never lose weight...

This is exactly the reason all of us here (except a few with medical condition) got fat in the first place.
We over indulge ourselves, we eat out of boredom and because we can...

If you dont change the way you think, no diet will ever work for you.

Trust me, I been there, done that and got the tshirt...

I agree with Triplewhopper, don't get me wrong there are plenty of times where I've wondered why I'm putting myself through CD, but then I remember that in 5 years of SW I lost and regained the same 2 and a half stone over and over because of my bingeing on free food and over doing the syns thinking I'd get away with it! I had 7 and a half stone to lose and there is no way I could do it with SW or WW because when I was good and followed it to the letter my losses were a max of 2lbs, but usually only ever 1lb! So like someone else has said it would've taken me forever and I only ever made it to 3st lost before I'd give up thinking I'd never make it.

CD has been brilliant fir me and will always be the diet I choose. The cost makes me less inclined to cheat, eliminating the food I used to binge on (carby foods like pasta, potatoes and rice - all free on green days) means I'm retraining how I think about food. And I lost 75lbs in 4 months - no way I could've done that on SW or WW.

I maintained that weight loss for almost 2 years and have used CD when I've notice my weight creeping up. I am back on CD again as I've gained 2 and a half stone recently on a trip to America followed by Christmas. I'm happy to carry on and use CD to get rid of this gain. I have nothing but good words to say about this diet! It can be tough, really tough but the reward is worth it!
