Scals' Answer to Gravy!!!

Scals

Got to do it this time
If you are anything like me gravy is hard on slimming world. All my syns goes on wine at weekends so to have a nice gravy dinner in the week that is syn free just isn't possible for me!

HOWEVER..........

From Iceland the following are free!

Sliced beef in gravy
Sliced lamb with mint gravy
Chicken fillets in gravy.

I am vegetarian (but only because I don't like the texture of meat) and OH is very much a meat eater....

Monday I cooked the lamb for him and nicked the gravy for me - that was gorgeous but very thin.

LAST NIGHT! :D well what can I say - I cooked the sliced beef and nicked the gravy - firstly it tasted nice AND it was thick!!!!!!! I was so so so (sadly) happy I can't explain!

So - wanted to share I have found a half decent gravy that is thick and free! I'm off to buy a freezer full - the OH said the meat was alright to so bonus if you are a meat eater!

Does anyone else do this?

You could make your own :D

Which is what I do
gently dry fry 3 large sliced onions add a little water to stop them sticking get them to a soft and golden colour then add veggie stock enough to cover and blitz the whole lot the onions thicken the stock it's lovely

Where am I going wrong Kally - I have tried that but it ends up like watery stock with lumps in????

I use a hand blender - is that the problem?

sounds like you might not be allowing it to simmer for long enough??? by the time it is ready to be blitzed, the onions should pretty much of completely softened and been absorbed into the stock, giving it a heap of flavour.

this is the recipe from my blog. It a delicious gravy for sausages and heaps of other recipes.

Another easy gravy idea is to dissolve a stock cube in boiling water and add smash until you achieve desired thickness. Tasty and quick!

Just found this thread on a search for syn free gravy and seeing this has made my day - fab idea for gravy (can't wait to try the onion one either) AND I didn't realise Smash was free! When I was a student I used to make it up when I got in from a night out rather than get a takeaway - good to know I can still keep this option as a failsafe!

I also add spinnach and tomatoes to my gravy.... smash is free on SW green days? (sorry just starting today and have been looking at a friends book)or just free in general?? sounds like a great idea to add it to gravy

It's free on Green and Extra Easy, but you have to syn it if you're doing Original! I don't know if it's in the book, I looked it up on the SW website :)
