Extra Easy doing slimming world from home!

Hey guys, ive just started doing slimming world from home and im finding all the advice on here really useful, so thank you. Im hoping I find the willpower and motivation to do this off my own back, and im sure will the support of this site will help tonnes. Anyone else doing it from home? How do you cope and are you finding it easy?
I only have between 15-21lb to loose but havent seemed to be able to get myself motivated after the birth of my daughted 3 months ago, im hoping now things are gunna change and im going to be able to do this!x

i think that once you've got your head into gear and are ready to lose weight its much easier than if you feel you should lose weight but aren't ready to.

I struggled after my daughter was born and she was about 9 months before i started losing but that was because, weight wasn't an issue for me, all i wanted to do was look after my baby, then gradually i started thinking about losing weight and once i decided to there was no going back. Oh one thing though, we all fall off the wagon occassionally (or once a week in my case!!!) just draw a line under it, and start again the next day. I find calculating the syns you consumed helps as it makes you realise how much you went over then hopefully you don't make the same mistake again.

But don't forget, SW is a change of eating, not a quick fix diet xxx

I feel if I start a healthy eating plan it will benifit my daughter, she'll get more nutrients through my milk and also ill have more energy once I dump all the junk food! Im already on iron tablets to try and improve my energy levels. Also the weightloss will help me feel gud about myself again, and that will have a possitive effect on baby! Thanks for your post!x

ahhhh congrats on the birth of your baby!

welcome to minimins and goodluck on your weightloss journey, this is a fab site full of fab info, and theres always someone about to answer your questions and give you the extra umph to motivate you!

I'm doing it from home, and I find it pretty easy. But I have friends who couldn't do it without group. I don't think either is wrong or right and I think it all comes down to mindset. The 'threat' of weigh-in that keeps people I know on-plan really wouldn't bother me. I wouldn't give a flying fig what some random person at group would think if I'd gained a pound, I'd find it a lot more difficult to square up my own opinion of myself.

I think I find it relatively easy because this is 'forever' not a quick fix, as Donzy says. And I tell myself that I can have anything I want - but I can't have everything. I just remind myself that things aren't the same way as they were before because that was wrong and the way I'm doing things now is right. That is more than enough to help me overcome cravings if and when I get them.

Far from being a chore that I'm doing because I have to, this is pampering my body and giving it what I need because I want to. When I put it to myself like that, it actually feels very indulgent, decadent, even. I tell myself that I don't want to have a heart attack in my early thirties like my uncle, or die from colon cancer in my early forties, like my grandmother, or a stroke in my early fifties like my mother.

I'm actually more focussed on doing the plan right than I am on what I weigh. My whole attitude to myself has completely changed. Instead of being in a downward spiral of feeling rubbish, hating myself, eating, feeling rubbish. I am now on an upward spiral of feeling great, taking care of myself, feeling even better. I am exercising for the first time ever, and rather than resenting having to do it I am enjoying it. I have found the self-esteem and confidence I had never even realised I was lacking. My relationship with my partner is even better than it was before... I haven't yet found anything that tastes as good as happiness. Wow, I am so cheesy today!

I found it really hard at first to work out what my motivation was. Now I know what it is I want, I'm finding it easier to keep my eye on the prize. Sure, I have good days and bad days, but it all evens out over time, and that's where the support here comes in. Minimins is better than any group. When you have a bad day people here pick you up. When you need them they are your greatest cheerleaders. When you need someone to be brutally honest they do that too!

Ask yourself WHY you want to lose weight. Try and be specific. The clearer you are with yourself, the easier you will find it. I hope that makes sense.

Good luck :)

Sorry, I spent so long on my post it crossed. But what you just said makes it clear WHY you are doing this, so when things get tough, you know exactly what to remind yourself :) But you know, with a new baby you've got a lot on as it is. You don't have to be perfect. If this is what you want, great, go for it! But if you feel that you're juggling too much, take a step back and do what feels right.

Hey Princess

Welcome to minimins. Im doing slimming world at home - started at the beginning of this year. Im finding it OK so far, but do sometimes wonder if Id get more out of the classes. But the location and times of classes near me don't really work.

The one thing that I find helps me the most is to plan the week ahead so that I get the right food in, and know what Im meant to be having when. Stops me deciding to cook when I get hungry which is when I have a take away or big bag of crisps. I also find it good fun thinking about what I want to eat all week and deciding what I want to do again (like kfc chicken - yum yum) or not (meatloaf - didnt float my boat)

Doing EE from home too. I live in the middle of SW France with all it's temptations and the weight has been creeping up over the last 3 years or so. Did lose 12 kilos a few years back but that was when I lived for a while in Thailand and got Typhoid!! I'm hoping to get a similar result from SW without taking to my bed!!

I want to lose weight because I'm fed up with looking at myself in the mirror and being disappointed with what I see; also, I am being fitted with an insulin pump next month so I'd like to be in a routine before then so I can adjust accordingly. EE is perfect for Type 1 diabetics as it does not exclude carbs. Mind you, my Syns may go up if I have a low blood sugar day!!

Hey kat,

Well the diet OFFICIALLY starts today and ive done the whole planning the week aheads meals, im hopeing I can get everything I need on the shopping trip today (and dreading how much its guna cost)!
Well done for sticking to SW from home for so long already, and good luck!
I didnt realise so many people would be doing it from home too, its great!x

Hiya I do SW at home and personally I find it easy, however my bestfriend needs a class, it helps give her discipline.

My view for me, is that I do SW the whole week at home/work and the class is only one hour within this week. So in the big scheme of things I'm doing it at home already so why pay for an hour class? (Hope that makes sense)

It all depends if you need the focus of a class.

Good luck

Hi
I just joined the forum
Moved to France 9 weeks ago and started slimming world diet the same day! Bit up and down but eating loads

Hi Im trying to do SW at home alone also> Have got a couple of starter books from friends> I did this yrs ago and lost a couple of stone, have been doing WW for past couple of yrs and lost and regained a stone - twice for good measure! I kind of thought if you did EE that you had to stick to that every day, but have realised you can chop + change. The problem I have is not using my hE's+ syns as I worry about running out of them? Anyway this time I have to find a wy of getting to the end of this journey an keeping it off. I realise that weight loss is forever for some of us. I also worry that with 3 slim kids I have to cook different things so that they dont disappear completely, they def didn't get their skinny genes from me. Anyway will keep in touch and see how you are doing. Good luck.Sam

I enjoy online to, it works for me, the weight is between me, and the computer. And at the end of the day it's me that wants to loose the weight! It's me that wants to be slim, so why cheat on myself ..... I love Sliming World , and it takes no time at all to jump on those scales on Friday morning and record the weight loss .
Good luck with your weight losses,

Hi,

I'm doing it online too. Unfortunately this is out of necessity rather than choice. I damaged my back quite badly in jan and can't get about much or drive at the minute. Started SW at end of Jan as the fact I wasn't moving meant I piled the weight on and that was on top of Christmas weight gain! Finding the weight is coming off VERY slowly but at least it's going in the right direction.

I'm a WW convert and always went to classes so finding the switch to SW online a bit tough. It's hard to follow EE when i've been so used to point counting. I've also found that planning my meals is the best way to go but I'm sometimes finding the 1/3 sf food quite tough. For example if you're having curry and rice (homemade and syn free) what SF food could you have? Would you count all the veggies that have gone in it or just serve up 2/3 of the plate?

Sorry for stupid question!

Emma

The veggies in the curry count towards your 1/3 superfree, yep, so if you fry a few onions, garlic, ginger, cook it in a tin of tomatoes, and add whatever other veg match the type of curry youre making (or just make a veg curry!), theres plenty of options for superfree in it.
You can also put things like onions & spinach in your rice which is quite tasty.
Or you can serve it with a spicy side salad, there are loads of recipes for spicy/Indian-style salads/slaws/chutneys out there.
Or if you really dont want any of that you can just fill the plate 2/3 full, and maybe eat a bit of fruit or veg *before* your meal.
At the end of the day the odd meal without 1/3 superfree is fine, (things like fish & chips dont lend themselves to superfree ;) ), its just you shouldnt be doing it every day thats all :)

Thanks for that! I always try to put as many veggies as I can into my meals and usually have fruit as a pudding so should hopefully be ok!
