Hi there,

I too, am TERRIBLE at cooking rice. I actually bought myself a rice cooker and i have to say, it's fab. You can cook risotto in it as well AND it steams veg. so that's an option.

I'm not sure if the offer is still on but M&S had their version on Uncle Ben's Express Rice (the one in a satchet you can microwave) for half price and that's free on EE and green.

xxx

I could never cook rice, but i learnt that if you add 1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of boiled water, and then leave to cook on a low heat, you'll have perfectly cooked rice and no water to drain in about 10 mins.

Whatever portions you need, just use the same proportions and you can't go wrong.

Just remember that syn queries should be posted in the syns forum though!

Errrrr the pre cooked rice that you microwave is not free it's syned :( x

I too have made many, many pans of disaster rice over the years... I've got the hang of it now though, boil for 10-12 mins depending on packet instructions or until the little air craters appear in the surface and then turn off the heat and leave for 5 mins to soak up the excess fluid... then fluff up!!

Perfect rice every time lol xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Microwave rice steamer from Lakeland! Perfect rice every time.

The boil in the bag rices are just plain rice as far as I know so should also be syn free on green/EE

you can't go wrong with uncle bens :)

I got a microwave rice cooker from the pampered chef and i use it to cook supermarket own brand rice as this often goes stodgy and sticky for me when i cook it.

I do yummy rice....

Pre soak in water for half hour to get the starch out.
Drain. Spray pan with frylight and "fry" the rice fr a few secs and then pour boiling water over the rice, just about maybe half a little finger nail deep over the water. Put some salt in and mix round. Then put on high heat till bubbling then turn right down and simmer with a lid on. Should be ready in ten mins.

Everyone always says how lovely my rice is and my sister eats it on it's own lol. X

Always use twice as much water as rice.
So, I use one cup of rice and add 2 cups of water.
I bring the water to the boil, add the rice and simmer very gently for the required time (on the packet). When it's done, put a clean tea towel over the top and put a lid on the pan and leave for 5 mins to absorb any moisture.
The result is lovely fluffy rice. Just keep trying - packet rice is so much more expensive!

1 mug of rice (easy cook long grain), 1.5 mugs of boiling water, 12 mins in the microwave - perfect rice! Hope you find something that works for you.

Use brown rice and it doesnt go sticky as has the husk around it. I just boil it in salted water for however long it says on the packet. I use the supermarket own brand American brown rice and its usually about 25 mins. No need to rinse, soak or anything either. And much better for you than white

^^^ I tried this for the first time recently, and whilst it takes longer to cook, it is so much nicer. I'm defininetly a convert to brown rice.

I was hopeless with rice too but my hubby showed me how to do it. And it's ridiculously easy:

1. Bung rice in pan with a bit of salt.
2. Boil kettle.
3. Pour boiling water over rice, enough to generously cover it.
4. Bring back to boil in pan and boil for 10 minutes.
5. Remove pan from heat. Drain rice into seive.
6. Bung drained rice back in pan.
7. Stir.
8. Put lid on pan.
9. Wait 10 minutes.
10. Remove lid. Dish up perfect fluffy rice. :)
