Hello. Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Alison and have rather a lot of weight to lose. I decided to give Dukan a go as I've previously been 'messing' with Slimming World and getting nowhere fast. Any help or advice would be very welcome. Started today so wish me luck.
Thanks ladies and gents (if there are any?)

Welcome, Good luck.

Read the book (or at least the attack and cruise sections), plan plan plan, do a shop and get going.

Have a look through the recipes and the menu threads, lots of people have done attack recently.

Hi Ali and welcome...

I just saw your comment on the Frittata recipe. Please don't do it in attack, and/or until you've thoroughly taken in the theory of this diet. (No veg is allowed in attack, and the quantity of fresh onion/garlic allowed is minimal - just for a little flavour).

Do you have the book? When do you start? Have you found oatbran yet?

Hi. Thank you both for taking the time to reply to my post. I've got both the basic diet book and the recipe book. I did have a dabble last week but kept being interrupted by commitments made previously so it's day one for me today. I think I should re-read the book to get things firmly in my head.

I have bought the oatbran and love it in natural yogurt. I'd forgotten how nice yogurt is, especially plain yogurt. Just been shopping and bought lots of low fat low carb food to keep me on the straight and narrow. Can anyone tell me how you know when you are in ketosis?

So far today I've had yogurt with bran in for breakfast and cottage cheese and low fat ham for lunch with a couple of silverskin pickled onions. Do you think that's okay so far? I thinkI need to start doing a daily diary and would appreciate any comments, both good and bad :).

Right, off to get my book back out again. Hope I haven't bored you with my ramblings and questions.

Ramblings are great, questions too...

Ref ketosis, normally by third day of strict pure protein. I usually get a bit hyper... actually quite a lot hyper! And I need less sleep, have bad breath, and am not hungry (so two things are good, the other less so!!).

Take a look at our recipe thread for things to do with the bran. I make muffins; he recommends a galette, which you can have with smoked salmon for a nice treat. Some do spoon it into yoghurt, as you have, but it's very versatile and is the one carby thing we have so good to use it for something nice! Some make "cakes" / "biscuits"... all requiring a bit of imagination, particularly when tasting them(!), but it's all good fun.

Otherwise I recommend getting some cooking done... and some marinating... A plain chicken or turkey breast, cubed, and left to befriend some garlic, herbs and/or spices will be much nicer to eat than low fat wet salty packaged ham...

Enjoy! And do open and diary and tell us ALL about yourself. We're very discreet and won't tell a soul! :D

hi and welcome
Looking at your ticker you are at the same weight roughly that i started at 7 months ago .....so good luck and hope it goes well!!!

Hi, Ali.

Your meals so far today sound good. You'll soon get the hang of it. Definitely a good idea to refresh your mind with the appropriate sections of the book so you can really prepare yourself.

Some of us (including myself, unfortunately) get headaches as we're heading into ketosis. So don't worry if that happens to you. It will pass - thank goodness. And you usually find that the fast weight loss during the Attack phase is a great morale booster.

Good luck! Don't forget to ask if you have any questions at all.

Thank you for your warm welcomes girls, it's much appreciated. Hope to get to know you all better in the coming weeks (or in my case years ;)).

Had a lovely bath with Dr Dukan earlier so gradually getting my head together. Off for another glass of water now.

See you all soon.

Love A. X

Welcome Ali, sounds like you're off to a good start on dukan, you'll soon see the pounds melting away on this diet. I think all your questions on here have already been answered, but keep us informed of how you're getting on.

Hi there and welcome. I was about the same weight as you 5 months ago. You will find lots of comerarderie in here. Not sure I like the idea of sharing a bath with Dr Dudu :)

Brillian loss in 5 months MM. It can be done then. I'm off on my hols in June so want to lose as much as I can by then, phew!!!! Can I ask you why you switched from Dukan to Atkins?

Stalling and felt like a change - and still stalling:D Not sure what to do now. All the weight was lost with Dukan though, so thinking of heading back that way next week when I have eaten the cheese in the fridge! - but maybe low carb doesn't suit me any more? I don't know.

Hey, Ali, let's struggle together. :girlpower:
How are you coping so far?
Btw, regarding yoghurts - in the first book (the one that was published with the original much stricter version before 2007) Dukie warns against using anything with an ~ose sweetener (sucralose, fructose etc; hence the warning about the necessity to limit milk and not so much the dairy products like yoghurt, cottage cheese, kefir and suchlike in which the milk sugar aka lactose is fermented). He might have relaxed on that requirement as he now allows even fruit yoghurt but I would definitely avoid the ~oses on attack, on strict PP days, and especially during a plateau.
MM - in the oat bran book (not translated yet I think) he recommends a crash version for up to 3 days, increasing the bran and going on 3-4 galettes a day and mostly pure water (and nothing else) - to help shift the weight if you stall, or in cases someone is after lightning quick weight loss (for example, ballerinas huh - in his own words! :8855:)

Hello girls. Sorry I haven't been able to reply before, computer problems :sigh:. I was doing really well with the diet until yesterday when I ate everything and anything in sight. I had a major need for carbs. Back to it today as I felt absolutely bloated this morning (serves me right hey?) and yukky to say the least.

Off for a glass of water now :D.

Ali, did anything specific trigger the binge? How much had you lost before yesterday (just asking cos you haven't updated your profile since you joined)?
Put it behind you and go ahead with the plan; if it helps typing here, use the opportunity.
I lose a pound per each looooooooooong message typed!

Also, usually, a carb binge when in ketosis could signify perhaps that you weren't eating enough... or had inadvertently come out of ketosis, so please write in your diary... and let us know what you're eating!
