Hey just want some advice really.

Im almost at my target weight with 9lb to go and i still have a belly its something I've always had even prior to having my son.

Just wondering what's the best way to get rid?? i walk everywhere about 20 miles a week so my legs are fine as are my arms from pushing the buggy just want some advice on really working my abs other than sit ups as i seem to fail on those so was thinking a dvd as don't have time for the gym being a single working mum!! thanks for ur help xx

I am afraid that there is no way to target weight loss. All I can suggest is for you to do cardio to burn fat. By doing sit ups all you are doing is developing the muscle of your abs behind the fat.

Good luck!

I weigh 8,10 atm and there is only a small amount of flabby left on my tummy, i know weight lose won't help as there is hardly anything there and im petite everywhere else just heard pilates was good for toning after losing weight??!!

In reality toning is simply building muscle. So pilates helps to build up your core muscles, i.e. your stomach, back and pelvis. You still cannot target your fat loss (it sucks!) as doing 'toning' exercises is building muscle.

Do Pilates, as it is wonderful and relaxing and really does make you ache in a lovely way lol

Sorry I know this isn't the answer you are looking for, but by not necessarily losing any weight and doing cardio and pilates you should be able to tackle the remaining fat.

And as you're developing muscles on your abs, you start losing that fat and your tummy becomes smaller, tighter. So yes sit ups do help a little. Pilates helps alot.

Pilates and sit ups etc wont get rid of the fat around ur tummy. it will jst turn it too muscle which will make it more toned.... but dont forget .. Muscle weighs more than fat so it might have a negative effect on the scales.

Thanks hun o tried yogalates last night n the breathing annoyed me ha will just try pilates and keep rhetorically Cardio ipod and walk walk walk xx

Fat and muscle are two completely different things so one cant be turned into the other. Toning your tummy muscles will show when you lose any fat thats there. Pilates is really good - I aim for 3 classes a week with 3 different teachers as they all teach so differently (some are really hard). Do the exercises properly and you really feel it in the muscles - I felt like I'd done a weight training session yesterday after my class!!!! Its also really good for posture which can make you look slimmer

Toning is about strengthening the muscles you have, so that they sit better and look better. It takes a hell of a lot to actually build muscle, especially for women (mainly intensive weightlifting and a very very high protein diet).

I did Yoga in India a few years ago, and whilst it's not the same as Pilates, it does have it's similarities. I would say it's well worth a try as some of the exercises are excellent for your stomach, and they're not as hard as repetitive as sit ups (in my opinion anyway).

There are the 10 minute dvd's, with selections of 10 minute work outs on them which are supposed to be good. I've just had the 'body blast toning' and 'yoga' ones delivered, but not tried them yet!
