Hungry Horse

Hiya, i'm heading to a HUngry Horse pub tonight with my family as its my nan's 81st birthday (aww!).

Anyway, I was planning on having the steak which comes with chips and peas. Do you think it's ok to ask for the chips to be changed to a spud and the peas to be changed to a salad? I cant see why not but I dont want to cause a fuss!

If I managed to get it changed, would it then technically be free on an EE day and meet the criteria for EE?

Thanks xxxxxx

I don't see why not hun :D
Go for it, you could always ask what the steak is cooked in as some places might do it on an open grill or it might be pan fried in oil. Either way it will still be really low syn or even syn free.
Have a lovely time xxx

My mum quite often asks for things to be substitued instead and never had a problem - Imean not a sirloin in place of a rump lol but salad instead of pease etc

They were lovely and helpful about changing my chips for a spud and peas for salad! Didnt feel awkward at all. I did forget to ask about the oil though. However, I presumed they used something though as it wasnt particually dry, but it wasnt particually oily if you get what I mean! xxxx

They are normally vac packed to retain moisture and are usually grilled on a flat grill :)

(used to work in a very similar chain) xx

I always ask for swaps whenever I go for a pub meal - usually it's swapping chips for jackets or new potatoes.

Always mention if you want potatoes without butter because you can guarantee the one time you don't mention it will be the time that they add it. If you have salad, make a point of asking that it comes undressed, just in case.

They expect it. Don't think you are making a fuss.

Going here tonight (I have clubcard vouchers so a freebie :) ), i often have the chicken skewers and swap the chips for a jacket . Would really like to do an original day today though might get the mixed grill with salad and give all the naughty bits to my son/hubby. Its weigh in tomorrow morning so i dont want to overload myself with carbs :(

Ended up having the sirloin and swapped the chips for an undressed mixed salad just the onion rings(3) and the peas(original day) to syn. Quite pleased that i managed to eat out and not go overboard :)

Hi, does anyone have an up to date syn list for The Hungry Horse, I can't find anything anywhere. Syns online only has Cajun chicken salad and I don't think they do that anymore. I tried ringing the syns hotline after having a chicken bacon salad last week, and they were more than useless to be honest. She couldn't syn anything without a packet weight :( I really want to have lunch here weekly and would love to know the syns values Thanks x

Does their website not have any nutritional info on?

Hi yes but no weights. I put the chicken and bacon salad in calculator and guessed 300g and if came out 14.5 syns lol I thought that was high for salad. Syns helpline won't syn anything without the weight. My salad said 575 calories ( I think) on their nutritional info. I just wouldn't know how to syn different things on the menu. Thanks x

You wouldn't be able to work out the syns like that, as the dishes contain free food-so you would need to remember to account for the free food in the drop Down boxes. You'd be best going for a nice plain steak and jacket and salad or something if you're not sure. Ask for it with no sauce/butter/dressing, maybe have a little on the side so you can control the amount you're using x
Edit-just re read and realised that you've already eaten it!

Thanks, I was asking as my friend keeps wanting to take me for lunch there weekly. It would be nice to have been able to see syn values but hey ho. I did put chicken as the free food. Steak option is good but a little expensive option. Thanks. The salad was really nice :)
