Hi, i really want to go to the gym but i have a swine flu paranoia. i can barely cope with minor illnesses and so do not want to risk getting swine flu. but this means i have to avoid the gym :break_diet: :( and thus i doubt il be losing much weight and i do so want to :sigh:

Why do you need to avoid the gym? Why do you think youre at more risk there

from what i know.. theres more chance of it passing on to you the more time you have social encounters plus use same equipment with people who have it means spreading of germs and being in close proximity to others who are coughing, sneezing for example means its likely to pass and so on...

Get some alcohol hand gel & just make sure you wipe down the equipment before & after use... if you do that you're at no more risk that in the supermarket or on public transport. The benefits to be gained from joining a gym far outweigh the risk of swine flu.

i go to a gym group called the gym they clean all there equipment with disenfectant and use antibacterial spray every couple of hours most gyms do this .

I dont actually go out much so public transport and supermarkets are no problem to me, funnily enough, i dont go out much because im ashamed of being overweight.... and yup i have checked the net etc and do feel that it is possible to be careful and not catch it but its just really REALLY putting me off. i do realise i may be overreacting but i cant help it, its how i feel. think i might start going in a week or two because my weight is really starting to bug me, even moreso than usual!

hmmmmm thats quite true actually... i think i might just go! :D

Nope did not know that, heard that its hyped up because of the government wanting us to worry about it rather than on what the government is actually doing..... but not that the normal flu is more dangerous! damn these people for hyping things up and making me worry! think its a conspiracy to prevent me rom losing weight... haha maybe not :D

btw, thanx everyone for your help/advice etc, much appreciated :D

for most users, gym is a complete rip of. £30 a month minimum, imagine what you could do with that.

just go running in the grass in the park - much better.

And buy a set of dumbells for basic home weight lifting. I assume you are female by your name, so with that i would also assume you dont want big muscular arms, so just get a work out programme for lean arms and legs using small dumbells and the rest is eat nicely and run in the park.

It is quite a rip off but i feel when i do go i benefit from it and so eventhough there are many times when i just cant be bothered going when i do go i enjoy myself and feel better so in that sense i feel it is worth the money. :) Also i could never run in the park, im so embarrassed to even tell people i go to the gym let alone actually run in a public park. could NEVER do it unfortunatley. :sigh: You see I have no confidence in myself whatsoever and even going to a gym is hard for me because i dont like going out much because i feel overweight and disgusting :(

appreciate the advice though.. Thankyou
oh and i am a female! you assumed right
