feel like giving up

I am so fed up

I've only joined up to my local group just before Christmas, and all was well for the 1st few weeks. Lost 4.5 first week, put on 1lb over Christmas and lost 2 lb the following week (even though I had way too much booze new years eve and a full pizza!)

Then last week, I decided to give more of a push. I was having more veggies with dinners, loads more fruit then I would have had, and kept my sins between 8 - 12. I weighed everything to be sure, my hubby looking very strangely at me weighting my Yorkshire pud

and at weigh in on Thurs - STS ??????

Felt really down, but after a while I thought I'm going to keep at it, just one of those things.

On weigh in day I got on my scales before going to class, and weighed EXACTLY the same as class scales.

So, I've been really good still, and thought I'd jump on my scales this morning.

It says I've put on 2lb:cry::cry::cry:, and this was 1st thing in PJ's, when I normally weigh evening in full clothes, so God only knows what I'd weight tonight.

I just don't know what I'm doing wrong and feel like chucking it all in, and if I hadn't bought a 6 week countdown I probably would have.

Help!

Mel

Firstly, there will inevitably be weeks when you sts despite being on plan 100% - I like to think it is the body catching up with itself but could also be due to any number of things such as water retention, totm etc. Your body is not a machine - it's not a case of press buttons A and B to get result C - and it doesn't know which day of the week your WI is so doesn't always perform on command.

Secondly, even though your scales matched the SW scales mid-week sneaky peaks don't work ...full stop! Your weight naturally goes up and down every day by as much as 7lb so what you say on the scales today bears absolutely no relation to what you will see on WI day. You could weight yourself tomorrow and be -3lb! If i were you I would take the scales back to the shop and leave them there!! It only messes with your mind .. as you are finding.

So pick yourself up and dust yourself down. The one common factor all succcessful slimmers have is being able to pick themselves up after a bad outcome/day (not that you've had one) and get right back on plan. After all this is a long term game and not won or lost on one weigh in.

Good luck!

Hi Mel!

I like you seem to be quite inconsistent and have unexpected gains. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it's just me but I know it's super disappointing!!

You should definitely go to weigh in, take your food diary with you for your consultant to double check and just stick to it. SW is a great plan and you will lose weight but it might just take some time. Remember that us ladies' weight does fluctuate and actually when I jump on my wii fit in the morning I am always heavier than when I jump on it again in the evening even if I've eaten stuff all day and things. So it might not be as bad as you think!

Someone mentioned to me that eating too much salt can cause water retention. I don't know how much salt you would have to eat for this to happen but i must say I am a fan of the salt so am going to try and cut down and see if this works!!

And even though I have had a few gains since joining SW I have still lost an average of a lb a week and that's nothing to be scoffed at! I can't think of any other way I would have managed to lose 10lbs!!!!

Hope you're OK

You may find that your Christmas / new year indulgences caught up with you a bit late. This happened to me as I sts or lost over xmas and new year but at next weigh in (after a 100% week) I gained 2lbs which I thought was fair enough - no reason I should have got away with my excess! I wouldn't give up just yet, have a good couple of weeks when you stick to the plan 100%, let your body re-adjust after christmas and then make your decision. The good people on here will also say - never weigh yourself outside your class as it can affect your mood and motivation (as it seems to have!) and to post your food diary so we can see if there are any suggestions to be made. Stick at it, it does work - good luck!

I make that 4 weeks.. is it by chance your star week?
ladies can put on up to 5lbs in weight on their star weeks ( or the week before ) due to water retention..

I think you might have just found out that while some weeks you can have some extras and still lose weight, it can affect the scales the next week as it usually does catch up witg you in the end. Stick with it and i'm sure you'll see a loss this week.

Hi Mel,

Please don't be disheartened. I'm sorta thinking I'm in the same boat but am not giving up. I lost 3lbs my first WI last week but appear to have lost nothing this week, feel bloated, clothes as tight as ever. I also stood on the dreaded scales (I know, know ;-) !!!! ). And this morning I have a pound on despite being totally 100%

I have never really lost weight with SW. I joined a year ago, stayed for 3 weeks but left after losing no weight at all during that time :-(

I'm back again as I love the plan and it just HAS to work, I mean look at everyone else!!!! So I'm giving it more time. Maybe my body has gone temporarily on strike due to the years of bad, faddy diets I've subjected it to!! Lol!!! All I know that for the first time in a long time I'm eating really well, healthily and no food group is eliminated totally. I feel better for it and I hope that over the next few weeks the results will show

Good luck!!

Why not give some of the other plans a go? I know I personally don't do so well if I follow extra easy all the time, so I'm mostly sticking to red and green

What a lovely positive attitude Jaxie. I'm sure it will pay off in the long run. As someone on here said in a post I read earlier this morning, we're in a marathon, not a sprint.

I sometimes think that some people lose a load in the first week, and then get despondant when they don't see the same success every time they weigh-in.

ColJack took the words right out of my mouth, Star week messes up your losses. I tend to lose 3 weeks and gain one week because of star week. I still consistantly have lost 5-7Ib's a month.

I worked out you have lost over the 4 weeks 5 1/2 Ib's, thats not a terrible loss when you take into account Xmas!

I think your being way to hard on yourself hunny! if you lost 5 1/2Ib's a month thats 4 1/2 stone over the year. Thats an awesome weight loss, dont you think?

I think with weekly WI we all become a little fixated on your weight THAT WEEK, when in reality our weight THAT WEEK is determined by our hormones, stress levels, water retention and diet (to mention just a few). That's 1 out of 4 (or less) factors that the SW plan affects, so if you didn't lose this week, something else must have outweighed it - and next week you should be back on track.

What your doing by following SW is giving your body the best possible chance of losing weight. You may not lose weight every week, but think about it, by staying the same at least you didn't put anything back on!!

Whilst the weekly loses are motivational tools, always say I lost x lbs this week and x lbs SO FAR. Keep the so far number in the front of your mind.

Like the other posters said. You've done great so far! and that pizza and booze was always going to catch up with you so well done for staying the same!!

Keep your chin up. Follow the plan for your entire countdown and then review the plan to see if its working for you.

I think I'll try a few red days next week. Although I love EE, it may help to "shake" things up a bit!! It's just frustrating when my colleague in work has consistently lost 2.5 -3.5lbs every week without much effort. She's the same age and 'was' similar weight (not now though!!! She looks FAB!!!! ) think my body needs a good kick up it's bum :)

Fingers crossed anyway :)

Thanks for all your support, its great to have people here to be able to pick you up when you're feeling down :D

Its not * week, I have the implant and haven't had one in years :D, so can't be that.

I think it must be New Years caught up on me, so hopefully in the next few weeks my being really good will start to show. Must have patience!!!!!

If I STS again this week, then I might try throwing a few red and green days in to mix up the EE and keep my body on its toes.

And I must start to do some excercise too.

Thanks again everyone, feel a lot more possitive now!:D

Heya Mella

just to say I have the mirena coil and not had a * week for years either, but I do get the monthly bloating and grumpiness (so hubby says) So you may still be retaining water etc. Just check your monthly avergae losses rather than weekly, I bet they average out to 1-2lb a week loss, which is just perfect.
