eeek, my taste buds!

I'm on Day 2 and I'm really struggling with the taste! I think I must have freaky taste buds as the shakes taste really salty to me.

Yesterday I had Choc mint which was bearable, then Chicken & Mushroom soup which was very nice, then in the evening I had Cappucinno (hot) - I really had to force it down, it tasted really salty and beefy to me

I thought maybe it was a one off but this morning I tried Vanilla and it tastes like very salty custard. I am determined to carry on with this but is this salty taste a typical thing that everyone experiences or am I just odd! :)

I drank just over 3 litres of water yesterday, so I don't think I am getting the weird taste because of lack of water.

Any advice would be much appreciated! I'm secretly hoping to get lots of replies telling me it's normal for the first few days and the shakes will taste fantastic once I get used to it, lol!

When i started CD, i experiemnted with all the products (apart from tetras) and flavours but i have been having just Choc Mint milkshakes and maybe some Choc Bars from about week 3.

I couldn't handle the soups because i throught they tasted like sand and they made me feel sick. With the milkshake flavours, my taste buds kept changing so i would like something one day and hate it the next.

I have found Choc Mint to be the only one i like but i too have found that it tastes a bit salty at times. I havent found this with any of the other milkshakes tho.

I asked a friend of mine who is a CDC why this could be and he said he had never experienced this himself or had any comments about this from his clients. I can't remember if i asked my CDC but my shakes haven't been tasting like salt for a while. I just used to bare it and drink it. You kinda get used to it aswell.

I think maybe your taste buds are abit over sensitive to it if you can taste it in all the milkshakes. If you're worried about it you could mention it to your CDC. You could also try sticking with the milkshakes for a while and see if things change in a week or so.

I hope i have helped in some way :)

Get some Psyllium Husk powder, I find it dulls the taste of all the soups/shakes.

i have found that my taste buds definately took time to get used to the flavours. I only have one or two different ones now. I struggled hugely in the first week to get anything down and was taking ages with it (longer than the recommended time). After the fist week my tast buds definately changed cos i now can drink the certain flavours i like without gagging and quickly now.. After some time i think you will get used to some flavours - im not sure about the salty taste though, sorry!!!

How are you making the shakes?

Try 400mls water and several ice cubes and whizz in smoothy maker. YUM, just had a choc one this morning and hubby had to have some because it looked/smelt/tasted so nice.

Hmm, I don't find them salty but I do find some of them too sweet. I've a savoury tooth not sweet so maybe that's why .....

You are probably tasting the vitamins maybe? When I first started, the shakes and soups just tasted extremely chemical and fake, but now I find them yummy...
I however noticed my sense of smell has increased tremendously... not just food, but I could smell the sweetners in my sons sweeties! I think our tastebuds must undergo a lot of changes as well as some psychologial inflence going on!

Thanks for all the replies. I was making my shakes just by whisking up the powder & water with a fork, so they were really pretty grim with lumps.

After reading replies here I've just been and bought myself a snazzy new hand blender with a jug on the bottom and just made a shake made with some ice and blended properly and WOW what a difference!

The salty taste seems to be going too, so I feel like I've had a mini breakthrough :)

Day 3 is going well.

Thanks again

That does sound snazzy. I'm glad that your shakes are tasting better now. I hope you enjoy them and you have great success with the diet, which i am sure you will :).

Stay strong :) xx

Glad you bought the blender - the shakes are so much better with no lumps etc. I personally don't blend my soups and they are fine. What I do is put a small amount of water in the cup first and mix it until it's lump free then add the extrra water and mix again. I can only really stomach 2 flavours of soup - chicken and mushroom and vegetable. Now, the shakes are a different story. Chocolate and Strawberry are my favourites. I have a hot chocolate nearly every night. By the way, I have just had my first taste of white fish in 6 weeks and OMG what a difference. It tastes so strong, still nice, but so "fishy" if that makes sense. My brocolli tasted quite sweet too so my taste buds are definately changing.
