My son got an offer from Exeter University yesterday. I'm so pleased as all we have been hearing on the news is how hard it is going to be to get a place.

It's conditional on his grades, which will involve a lot of hard work, but he can do it :D

Congrats!
My son has also had a conditional offer from Liverpool. It's the only one he applied to because he has Aspergers and knows he wouldn't cope away from home.

I am really proud of him because he missed several years of school through stress and bullying, so was home educated.

That's brilliant news. Well done to your son x

I used to look after a girl in 6th form who has Aspergers, so I know how much this must mean to you all. xxxxx

Oh Marjery, good news! Not only that , it's probably too far for him to bring his washing back at weekends :p

A job well done by you MLM!

DS has got a conditional offer from Bath Spa but a rejection from Cardiff :(

Was feeling very pleased - then I looked at the cost of the accommodation -eek! DD is at Birmingham and in private halls and will paying £30 a week less next year than DS. Guess I'm going to have to do some serious teaching on budgeting (especially as DS, unlike DD, just doesn't get how the 'real' world works).

well done!! thats good especially now! :)
Im waiting to hear back from 3 of my choices, 2 have declined already :( Its a nervous wait so i bet he's chuffed to bits!

Cogratulations, I am in my third year now at uni with Asperger, there is a lot more support at uni for AS people :)

Congrats!

Thanks Bunny! That's really good to know :) I really had to work hard to even get him to admit to having Aspergers on his application, because he will need that extra support to succeed. I hope he gets in.

Congratulations to your son.
Being offered a place at Cambridge was what spurred my grand daughter on she was determined to get in. She is there now.
I am sure your son will feel the same. Good luck to him.

You never cease to amaze me. What a brilliant roll model for your kids.
Congratulations to you both.

Gosh, that is such hard work for you financially especially with the grants situation being as it is nowadays. In our day a grant was a free contribution to your highre education.

Congratulations to your son !!
Time for his wake up call.

It should not be a problem him getting in, even on my course there are people with all sorts of difficulties (mental and physical). It can be hard to but it down but in long run it safes hassle and anxiety. I know especially in the past if I was applying for a job I was fearful of putting it down due to rejection. But the thing is if you put it down then at least they can assist you with your needs :) Plus I think a lot of people are sucessful in achedemia just for the fact that they are studious (not all) but majority excel in the area due to difficulties in other areas, IMO.

Part of my job (I teach in an FE college) is working with learners with Aspergers and helping them into university. If you would like any information on applying for DSA/ getting a needs assessment/ working with the uni on a plan to help your son(s) settle in please feel free to pm me. I probably won't know the answer but I work with a fab group of people and between us we can normally find out most things!

Thanks Blissful, I may well take you up on that because whilst we have done all the school based needs assessment type of stuff, this is a whole new ball game. He is not very good at identifying his own needs, firstly because he has quite linear thinking and secondly because he is reluctant to acknowledge that he has needs at all and is and like Bunny said, is fearful of being rejected for being different.

So yes, that might well be useful, thanks :)

Bunny, just wanted to add I love the part of your signature that says "If you cant see the bright side of life, polish the dull side". Thats brilliant.

Congratulations. I have a son in year 11 so i know that i will be facing this in a couple of years.x

Thanks for the good wishes from everyone. Sorry not been on here for a while, so not being rude!! xx

He has now also had an offer from Sussex Uni, an interview at Southampton and we are still waiting to hear from Cardiff (which is the best course for him!). Fingers crossed but not being too greedy!
