ProPoints My WW Journey

Hi Everyone

Decided i'd write a diary to try and keep me focused on my journey (and busy so away from the cupboards lol).

I'm Bex, i'm 28, twin boys who will be 2 in two weeks and married hubby in August. I've been overweight for at least the last six years - i was probably a little over where i would have liked to have been when i quit smoking and all of a sudden developed this appetite that i'd never known in my life. I'd not really bothered about my weight up until about four and a half years ago when dh and i were trying for babies and it wasn't happening for us... i knew we'd need to go to the doctors and i was determined i was going to have the answer to my weight before they blamed it. So back then i started watching what i was eating and spinning at the gym. At that point i was 15st3.

Finally we were blessed with twin boys and after settling in to life as a mummy, in July 2009 i joined SW with my mom and sister. My start weight there was 14st 10. I found SW quite good - i love fresh food and it allowed me to make some great meals which i could freeze for the kids to have for their dinners. Nice healthy home cooked dinners. I got down, at my very lowest on SW, to 13st 1. At this point, we lost a lot of belief in our leader and christmas was looming etc. Throughout 2010 i was on and off SW like a yoyo.

In October 2010 i was angry with myself again and determined, more so as the kids are growing up and learning their behaviours, that i was going to be a healthy role model for my children... i was going to be fit enough to play football with them and go bike riding with them as they were growing up. I was angry that here i was, turning 29 next year and still fighting the same weight battle i'd been fighting since turning 25. And i was fed up, i was fed up of having weight to lose. So i decided that i was going to join ww. I decided to switch as i felt that i needed the portion control that just didn't come with SW. I don't seem to have a "full" button - it doesn't matter what i eat i just never get that feeling since i quit smoking. So i thought i could go with ww, continue with the healthy meals etc but have the portion control.

Well - portion control i did. I made a bolognaise one night, probably equal to half of what i would normally put on my plate. When i pointed it i was astounded, it was more than half of my points... that meant i'd normally be eating all of my points in just my evening meal - and that's when i was being good, without the cheese and garlic bread haha!! So this made me determined that i'd made the right choice with WW.

I was 13st 13.5 when i joined WW before xmas. I got back down to 13st 1 before xmas and then fell off the wagon a little before the holidays. New year weigh in was back to 13.5.5.

I am determined this year that i am going to do it. I am setting myself mini goals... the first is to be 12st something at my final Jan weigh in (31st) which is a big ask as it's the day after the boys' birthday party and i'm making their cakes... oh how i love cake mix :p

My second goal is in a challenge - we're doing the Jillian Michaels dvd shred - challenge is to lose 10lb and 1 dress size by Valentines day. I've just done day one tonight and feel that i'm going to hurt tomorrow but it will be worth it... watch this space for the results!!

My ultimate goal, is to be happy with how i look. To reach a good BMI that is 9st 13 but i will see how it progresses, i just want to be happy and for my children to grow up in a healthy family - with someone to model themselves on.

Hope i didn't bore you.... i have been known to ramble :p

xxx

Good luck with it Bex. Can I ask how did you find the Gillian Michaels dvd. Would it be suitable for people who aren't very fit? I was thinking of getting it cause i love Jillian on the biggest loser usa but I didn't want to spend the money only to find it's far too tough a workout for me.

It was ok to be honest, the moves are very simple that you'll know how to do, but i guarantee my muscles will hurt tomorrow. They have two backing people - one does a lower intensity version of the moves whilst you build up your fitness so i think that as long as you're sensible with yourself and listen to your body you will be fine.

You can always take it easy to start with and then work up to it being more intense to be on the safer side? The workout is 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio and 1 minute abs. I think the cardio is really the only bit where i really struggled with fitness levels - it was four things - jumping jacks, skipping rope (without the rope), butt kicking (jogging on spot kicking bum) and a squat with a cross body punch. So everything only lasts 30 seconds there which is do-able i think? The rest of the dvd is more muscle work which i think everyone will find the same regardless of fitness levels.

It's only a fiver on amazon, otherwise you can download level 1 on itunes for about £4 if you wanted to just try it... i did this as i wanted to try it first and also the flexibility of having the workout on my laptop / phone so i don't have to be stuck in front of the tv.

She promises great results though if you follow it... i've took my measurements and pictures so that i can look back at it in 30 days - brings us up to valentines from today x

Ok soungs good... 30 secs is very do-able:greenapple:

I think i'll download that trial today then.
Wow 30days til V day that is a good goal to work towards.

Nice warm bath should help those aching muscles tomorrow. ;)

Ah that sounds good! Love a nice soak lol. Let me know how you get on x be great to compare and motivate each other x

So... day 2 of the 30 day shred challenge and i've just finished the work out... it wasn't too bad again - although i really felt it in my legs tonight whilst working out - but i also felt like i was getting more "into" the moves so to speak - does that make sense?

Otherwise today i've been ok with ww - had a yummy pizza with two garlic dough balls for lunch and have just had home made cottage pie with butternut squash chips - had never had those and was really pleasantly surprised - they're fabulous and 0pp!! whoop!!

On the flip side of the coin i've been stoopid again and stood on the scales just after my work out. I don't know why i do it to myself honestly i don't - especially as i normally weigh in first thing in the morning. So i'm ignoring it completely and just hoping that i've managed to get down some more from Friday's weigh in by Monday.

I also completely unreasonably been a bit peed with my hubby today - all because he finished making the cottage pie and didn't weigh the stuff he used to make the mash and gravy. Poor sod was only trying to be helpful but it miffed me because i'd pointed everything so far. Doh!! So i've guesstimated it on the high side to try and compensate. I did apologise though lol xxx

Hiya, I'm reading with interest how you are getting on with the 30 day shred, I ordered it today after reading a few peoples diaries who are giving it a go. How long do you actually have to do each day? Can't wait to get started.

Never mind about the scales although I am pretty bad at constantly looking! Why do we do it to ourselves!!

Hi! It's only about 25 mins including the warm up n down so easy to fit into your day. Surprising the sweat you get on too! Definitely a good work out but manageable too! Let me know how you get on once you start and remember to take your measurements too xxx

25 mins is definitely do-able! Can't wait to get started now!! Yup I'll take measurments and will definitely keep u posted, will be popping in to see how u get on! Good luck x

Hi bex i was just reading your diary and amazingly im shocked at the difference in portion size too now compared to what id usually have. Even cereal having 30g just doesnt seem much but it really does feel you up so im so glad ive swapped from exante to ww at least i can focus on my eating habits. Good luck with the dvd im officially starting ww on monday and the dvd for now im just getting used to the points.

I fancy doing this shred DVD - I have read that it is quite an intensive work out - do you feel as though you have worked out.

It is mad isnt it. And the funny thing is even with what I was eating before I could still eat more. I feel no different I think it's just about retraining ourselves as to the right amount to be eating. X

Definitely. I definitely get a sweat on and my muscles certainly know they've been worked. Give it a try x

Yeah i agree with the portions - my cereal in the morning is where i notice it most - 30g in the bowl looks so tiny... when i think back i prob filled the bowl with atleast 60-70g. The worst thing is that packaging often gives you way more than 1 serving... it's annoying if your cooking for one.

Day three of the shred done... ouch my legs hurt today!! getting up / down between moves was sore but you know the saying - no pain no gain!!! WI tomorrow so will see how we get on. I had a nice roast chicken dinner today - which, naughty i know, i only loosely pointed. I was careful with my mashed potatoes etc. Have only had 5/29pp otehrwise and still have 11 weekly and 6 activity so figure it will be fine. Not normally like me though to eat something so heavy before WI.
