Newbie - introduction and a question or two

Losing it!
Hi there!

having lurked around Minimins for a good while (thank you so so much for the introduction Kristin) I've decided to join you all on Exante.

A bit about me... I'm 37, married with 2 young daughters and am a SAHM while my husband is at uni doing his MSc.

I've always thought of myself as fat, but in the beginning I wasn't. I just didn't understand that that I was never going to be as small as my size 8 classmates: I have a similar frame as my 6' plus father. Now I accept that I'm always going to be strapping lass but there is no reason to be morbidly obese!

I have 126lbs to lose, I'd like to do it before my 38th birthday in December, though a big loss before August would be great as I might be visiting my mother abroad and I'd like to surprise her.

I'm going to do a diary, so I will put a bit more there about my motivations and goals, this was just supposed to be a short introduction!!

So, on to the questions... any advice before I start please? My packs should be here on Monday so I plan to start Tuesday. Secondly, do you have any recommendations for books to tackle emotional eating please? I'm looking for something CBT style, to teach me new ways.

I look forward to getting to know you all :)

Hi onetwofour!! Welcome to exante and I hope you do well, I'm sure you will... This place has been a saviour for me to come and read/post when I'm feeling like I'm gonna binge, everyone is lovely and they all have time for you. Can't comment on a book to tackle emotional eating but I'm sure someone on here will be along to point you in the right direction. As for tips... I think the main one is water water water... Fills you up and helps you lose weight. Laura x

Everything Laura said really!
Theres alot of 'new' people here (me included) and its such a lovely supportive forum i'm sure you'll find it so helpful. xx
Welcome!

Hi Laura, I would recommend cutting back on the carbs before you start, this will help ease you into the packs, and as others have said, drink plenty of water x x

hey onetwofour,
congrats on moving to exante, you will find it great for losing weight. The best bit is the support you get here, I love it though it is slightly addictive at times. I guess we switch from food addiction to minis addiction and thats not a bad thing.

Good luck onetwofour, Just keep reading through the losses threads and I'm sure you'll be inspired! xx

Hi OneTwoFour. Can I call you 124? ;) Welcome to the forum. It's a complete life saver for me, these ladies and gents have pulled me back from the brink of giving up lots of times. Great motivation to surprise your Mum by the way.
Nothing to do with CBT, but I remember last time when I was doing Lighter Life I read a book called "The Hungry Years, confessions of a food addict" by William Leith. It is a kind of humorous personal journey towards abandoning, or at least reducing carbs. It had me in complete stitches, and I could relate to a lot of what he wrote. You can get second hand ones on Amazon for a pound plus p&p.

OneTwoFour welcome here and good luck. can just ask what is CBT?
Slinky thanks for your book recommendation, I will try to get it.

good luck

Welcome and good luck :) I would definitely increase your water intake and lower your carbs before you actually start on the packs, and you should then have a quicker, easier ride into ketosis.
I've heard good things about Paul McKenna's 'I can mkae you thin' CDs. I'm not sure if they're CBT, but I think it is helping you to rethink when you eat, so that food becomes something you do when you're hungry, and not just something you do!
The break from food on Exante might be helpful for you, and force you to find other things to do to satisfy that emotional need.
Anyway, welcome and good luck :)

Thanks Laura, I've started on the water, hope I've started soon enough to make the first week a bit less painful :sigh: good luck to you!

Thanks Eclipse, I've made a headstart on the water and I'm weaning myself off the carbs, it's not as easy as I'd like. But hey, the diet isn't going to be a walk in the park either, so I'd better get used to it!!

Thanks Bobbi, I am so developing a Minimins addiction! :D Going to need the support once the food is out of the equation, scary movies time.

Thanks for the welcome and the recommendation Slinky. 124 or OTF is fine, I'm not one to stand on ceremony! I really feel that this place is going to be a lifesaver for me too. :)

OneTwoFour :D

Hi there, thanks for you good wishes, sending some right back to you!

CBT is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which is changing the way you feel to change the way you think. I've used it before to help with a chronic health problem.
