Might be a stupid idea...but wondering about an active break somewhere

I was looking at weight loss camps and so on and seen they cost around £1000 per week per person, and I wouldn't waste the money for just a week.

However, it got me thinking. We all have the same goals, to lose weight and get fitter, and walking is an activity most people will be able to do. I'm probably going on a walking holiday with friends sometime this summer, but I thought why not have a minimins week or weekend away. A week for example in 4star cottage in the peak district would be around £450 in early Sep for 6 people (2 twin rooms, 1 double) - if 6 people went it would be £75 each for a week. There would be tonnes of walking opportunities. Would anybody be interested in anything like this?
An example I've seen is: Self catering holiday cottage to rent in Ashover Derbyshire near Chesterfield

I'd be happy to do at least 3-4 hours walking a day or even up to 5 or 6. And we could encourage each other to eat healthy (or to stick to our packs if doing a VLCD)

May be a stupid idea, but just wondered if anyone else was interested.

I think it sounds like a great idea, but maybe a week is a bit ambitious? Especially for a first time event. How about a weekend to get the ball rolling?

I would have considered a week, but most of my holiday from work is already taken up this year. Could consider a weekend if it wasnt too far from where i live which is Berkshire.

Anyway, just a thought.

A weekend is fine, maybe 2 or 3 nights, it doesn't bring down the price much, but around £52.50 per person. There may be cheaper around in different areas. Will have a look after exams, will look round most central parts of england, in case anyone up north, or from scotland wants to come. Will wait to see if there's at least 5 people interested first though :)

Hey there that sounds like a great idea most of my mates are skinny malinkys so they wanna party lol! but that would be so good for being able to inspire each other etc!!

Mwah Maz xx

Lynn, Madmazy, my geography of England is terrible considering I just moved here from Scotland less than 6 months ago, but I was looking at Sherwood forest, which is about 1.5hours to 2 hours from me, but around 2hrs 45mins from both of your locations. Since I'll probably get the train, and then end up going on to London after if it's down south, I'm happy if either of you could suggest somewhere closer to yourselves if you want which is good for lots of walking? I reckon if even one more person shows interest, this could be doable.

Just had a thought, perhaps the Cotswolds?

Sherwood forest would suit me fine, I drive 4 hours or more every day lol, so distances dont faze me much. Did you find any kind of accomodation there?

Cotswolds would be very nice too, ill start to have a look round and see what there is

Hey girlies !! sorry been MIA for a couple of days!! hehe!! I don't mind where we go either anyplace sounds good!!I drive too and am used to driving up and down to Liverpool loads so not fazed by a few hour drive!! xx

Haha I'm too nervous a driver still. Dundee was so much quieter on the roads (than Leeds)! Ok I'll look into accomm. :) Oh and if either of you want to bring someone to make the numbers up, that would be fine. I'd bring my friend, but she'd be liable to drop out last minute unfort.

Hi Ladies,

I could do a weekend -- used to be a Boy (and Girl) Scout Leader (have done all the training through Woodbadge -- which is the highest level). I live in Cambridgeshire, so a drive to the Nottingham area or Cotswolds (where I lived last time I was in the UK) would work well. I think I have some of those Rambler maps, etc. for the Cotswolds. I'll take a look.

@Dreamer -- look at what area lies along your route to London. Maybe you could avoid going into London by having one of us pick you on on way to the location.

Like dreamer I have a friend who would say she wants to go -- but would probably drop out at the last minute. She has been faffing about on committing to losing weight for the past year, so I finally just started without her. I am about 6 pounds down for the month (but I SS'd before january and lost the glycogen and water then).

I am going to try and walk 4 miles a day (probably on a treadmill until my doggie gets better -- then with her for part of it) five times a week.

Hi Minniemel, wow brilliant to have you on board. It sounds like you'll be able to save us from getting lost! And help us find some walking routes :) I'll have a look at my route from Leeds to further south

I'm so interested in coming too!

Although I am so unfit it's unreal. Started Exante a few weeks ago but still haven't started exercising so I don't know if I could come or not.

I live in Cambridgeshire but cant drive. I can catch a coach/train to wherever I need to be though. :D

Blue Butterfly, it'll be a while off yet, so something to aim for! :) And it won't necessarily be strenuous, just long walks, but we could do long and short ones so there's a choice :) I'll be getting the train down too

Or if you are close enough I can give you a ride -- or I can get you along the route, as I live in Cambs, too. I live near Huntingdon.

I'll take a look Lynn. It sounds good. I love that area of England.

Aaww thank you MM, I know where Huntingdon is. I live in a teeny village about 5 miles away from Cambridge, it sucks being all the way out here!!

Are you guys still planning this? Need another?? :)
