Red's food diary - advice very gratefully received

I've never done SW before and I'm not able to go the meetings. I wish I could but I just can't right now. I have the food optimising book and this site to help me. I have a ton of weight to lose (about 9 stone) so I really just need to alter my eating for life rather than this being a temporary diet.

I've only been doing this for two days and I'm aware that I may not be doing it as well as I might (for example I've had hardly any Syns). So I'd be very, very grateful for any help, advice or suggestions on how to improve my diary from those more experienced.

Here we go yesterday was a tentative start:

Easy Extra
B- black coffee (went out after school run and thought I was returning – not a great start)
L – 10 cherry tomatoes, 3 spring onions, garlic, 1 boiled egg, half tin tuna in spring water and 1 small cup of cous , an apple, green tea
T – potatoes chipped and baked with frylight, egg fried in fry light lots of mushrooms, tomatoes, onions garlic in frylight. Banana and satsuma
S – 3 original ryvita with 2 extra light laughing cow triangle (HE + HE) 2 banana, 1 satsuma
Nb: according to book HEa = 6 x laughing cow extra light, HEb= 4 ryvita original
Syns- 1 extra ryvita and cottage cheese about 2.5 syns
Exercise – school runs only. (twice there and back today)

Today so far:
January 11th - Easy Extra

B – Back coffee, half tin light choice beans, egg cooked in frylight, 1 small banana, apple
L – homemade butternut squash soup, homemade hummous and carrot sticks, satsuma and grapes
T-kedgeree (haddock, brown rice, peas, mushrooms, onion) served with broccoli) 1 Mullerlight strawberry cheesecake yoghurt - 1syn
s- 4 ryvita (HEb) with 2 laughing cow extra light triangles (HEa), 1 banana, 1 Mullerlight new york cheesecake yoghurt 1 syn.
= 2 syns in total

I think I should probably be eating more syns.

S – 2 x ryvita HexB and 2 x Laughing cow HexA, 1 Mullerlight yoghurt, 1 banana, 1 small pot of houmous large handful carrots.

Hi Nicola

I just got a chance to check my email now and I can read the recipes. They look lovely. I think I'll try the roast chicken at the weekend with the family. I'd like to try the rosti too. Thank you so much for sending them to me, I really appreciate it. x

I think the boiled bacon would be free on Extra Easy as long as it had no fat.

What you're eating looks fine to me!

Have you joined a group? Or are you doing this online?

x

Have you got the latest Slimming World magazine? There was a little booklet in there with 31 recipes for dinner. I can send that to you if you don't have it?

x

That's lovely of you Little Sausage I do have that magazine and booklet :D but thank you for offering.

I'm doing it alone, with a food optimising book, no meetings, no online membership and I've never done SW before only WW Points (online)once. I'm toying with online membership but it's not an option financially at the moment, hence going it alone. I'm glad I found this site it has been an enormous help.

How are you getting on?

Looks fine to me, however you def need to up your syns. You should be having a minimum of 5 a day.

The reason syns are important is because you can lower the amount you are having when you get close to goal if your weight loss slows down. If you have started off with little syns from the start you have nothing to adjust.

i agree with britmum, you need to up your syns i dont have loads but i do have 5-8 a day but i do enjoy the ones i do have ;0) x

I thought so. I was finding it difficult (suprisingly). I did have 7.5 yesterday so I'm working on it. Thank you very much for your feedback. I'm make sure I have at least 5 from now on.

Take a look at Britmums website as well, she has some amazing recipes, there hasnt been one yet, that I've tried, that hasnt been a big success with the family. Her ultimate burgers are amazing, or as some of the other mums call them McMummys lol She also does some yummy deserts!

Good for you! I joined a group mainly so that I have someone to answer to! Have never been a member of a slimming group before at all!

I think it's going well... Won't know until Monday's weigh in though!
