How should I use my syns?

Hi everyone I am new to Slimming World, and I must admit I feel like I am eating way too much for it to be a diet! :confused: Just wondered how other members use your syns, for example should we be using them a certain way, or can you really have crisps or choc nearly every day as long as the rest of the food you eat is free? I was going to ask Consultant but felt silly as there were loads of 'regulars' there and it was my first week!

Don't feel silly for asking at group, you have paid and everyone has been the new starter at some point!

It's true - you can use your syns on whatever you want. Sw is such a brilliant filling diet so long as u are organised, have a meal plan and keep ur fridge full of free foods. Just remember to eat your 1/3 super free.

For example I will save my syns for an evening and have a bag of crisps and a skinny cow ice cream! Yum

But today I was unorganised and ended up using my syns on dinner and tea as I didn't have much free food left in the house. So just fruit tonight for me.

I use a lot of my syns in cooking eg a small amount of salami or some honey or Schwartz lemongrass, Ginger and coconut paste in stir fries. Also condiments, like ketchup or extra light Mayo!

If I have syns left after I'll sometimes have some chocolate or crisps but I generally wait till I crave it. Otherwise I'll use the syns more frugally on options hot chocolate or a mini twister iced lolly (yummy and only 2.5 syns for the chocolate or fruit varieties) as I've generally used a few in cooking already.

I have to admit though I tend to have better losses when I allow myself a treat now and then though :)

I'm afraid it's a bit of trial an error to find out what works best for you but treats are fine if they stay within syns, that's what they are there for. It's up to you how you use them
 
I really wouldn't worry too much about it - even if you use your full 15 syns a day that is only 300 calories worth of food and not enough to add even 1lb in weight over the course of a week
 
Thank you very much for your replies, I will try to be a bit less shy at group as well! I think I might start this week by halving my syns, some for cooking and a couple for a little treat, and see what happens. I will post my loss on here on Friday!
 
Do you have to eat the syns or not? If you have only 5 syns a day are you more likely to lose weight quicker or do you have to eat all 15? Thanks x
 
Nor using your syns or using fewer of them does not help with weight losses, in fact many people find that they lose less when they do this.

Your syns are there to ensure the plan is sustainable in the long-term and that you do not feel deprived. You are far more likely to go off plan in a big way (i would suggest guaranteed to) if you feel deprived so it really is true that a little of what you fancy does you good. And can you really see yourself never having a glass of wine, a bit of butter or take-away ever again?

But some people find that as they near target they need to cut back a little and if you start out by using very few syns then you have nowhere to go.

So I say start out using 10-15 a day - I have used my syns every day throughout my weight loss journey and even now when maintaining.
 
Thanks for that!! I did think it would be very hard to do it without any syns but was just making sure I hadn't got to use them each day because I've found a lot of lively looking syn free meals and was thinking that I was going to have to catch ul in the evening but I can just eat them when needs be!!

Your syns are there for you to enjoy on whatever you like :)
They are there to stop you feeling deprived so use them on whatever you fancy.
I tend to try & make all my meals syn free so I can allow my syns to be used on something like a treat.....
my favourite at the moment being Highlights Chocolate Fudge Hot Chocolate for only 2 syns a sachet :)

It might be worth looking up all your favourite treats & writing down the syn values in your book. I have done this in my diary, that way I have got all my favourite syn values to hand for whenever I fancy a treat :)

I am trying to stop having a drink of wine etc at night so I will be usuing my syns on mainly oil and dressings etc. Somethings just aren't right without them.
