How did you set your goal?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times before. I'm getting closer to my goal, which I initally set as 65kg for two reasons: one, that it's just under the mid-point "normal" BMI for my height, and two, that where I used to work they had a lift that said "For 10 people, 650kg maximum", which always made me freak out a bit about my weight!

Anyway, I'm getting closer now, and I'm confused about where to aim for. I think a BMI of 23 is sensible, which is 2lb heavier, but it's just a number. How did you set your goal? I am a size 12 now (hurrah!) in all but the skinniest of trousers. I don't want to get too thin and not be able to maintain it, but on the other hand I don't want to stop too early and regret it later.

I also find it difficult to judge my size. I look at my "before" photo and honestly can't remember looking that terrible. And now, I feel SOOOOO much better. But am I done?

Help!! :)

Hey Spangly... :)

Hmm... Well, I set mine on 2 things really...

1. The last time I was 9st 4lb's, was about 10 years ago... and I remember looking good then!

2. It's a nice round number in lb's... 130lb's to be exact! ;)

However, I will assess closer to the time I guess. Losing a little more once off LL, or putting a few back on sensibly if looking a little gaunt, will all be decisions I can choose when I'm at 9.4...

...and will be totally doable. It's not like once you've decided, it's set in stone... You can change it again further, at any time... till you're happy... :)

Even since starting LL about 6 weeks ago, I've had a slight change in goal weight actually... I've been thinking, seeing as the LL scales at my WI have me about 3 or 4lb's heavier than my scales at home... I may aim for 9st on mine (and 9.4 on the LL scales)... where as I'd previously wanted to be the 9st 4lb's on mine...

To be honest though... it's a tough call...

I laughed at your "For 10 people, 650kg maximum" thing though! Brilliant! Isn't it funny how things like that have such an impact! When I read about celebs in mags, often they are 9st or less, so that has influenced me too... silly huh? ;)

I'm a bit of a symetry freak so for me 11st 11 for 2011 would be perfect ;)

Hey Spangly

Goal setting is such a personal thing... I re-assesed and changed mine a few times on my journey. Initially I thought about 62kg would be fine - because it was such a dream, but as I got closer to that and saw my body and worked out myfeelings I decided to go lower, which I did. I then lost almost a further stone during RTM, which took me to the point of too skinny. My BMI was almost too low. It all balanced out after completing RTM and being back on the food a few months and I ended up with my happy weight being the weight I went into RTM on. I give myself a little box of how much higher and lower I can go.When I hit the top of that box I know it is time to address issues, as I am doing right now as over Xmas I got a little over my comfort zone. I think you know somehow when yoru body feels right and you feel comfortable in your head too.

I don't like to go by the BMI chart because they don't take acount to muscle mass. So just go by cloth sizes or by how you simply like the way you look in the mirror. When I was 10st I loved it, so I am heading for that same goal :)

Wooow i cannot believe how well you have done reading your stats seeing where you started and where you are now... i cant imagine having to contenplate that sort of decision! I think spanglymum had a good point that nothing need be set in stone and if you felt gaunt you could put a few back on! I also think a 'round' figure is a good idea! (easier to remember i guess!)
Well done on your achivement!! Icant wait to start my journey! :D

That's so true... They don't even differentiate as to whether you are male or female! I know that at 9st 7lb's I'm pretty thin... yet according to my BMI at that weight, I'm only just inside normal! Mental! Lol...

I agree with Jez.
Most of us who have a lot to lose adjust our goal as we get nearer to it. If you haven't been slim for years it is difficult to envisage it will ever happen!
When you get there it's such a novelty and then it's scary to think of eating again. You imagine it will all pile on again as soon as you start eating.
Many of us get just s little too low - just to see what it's like!
So you find reasons to put off doing RTM.

Then you find what suits you and try to hover around that.
I also have a "happy box" of 7lbs. If I go over that I know it's time to act.
