Hello all, I'm Natalie, 26 from Sheffield, I have finally decided to bite the bullet and lose weight. I need to lose a lot of weight!!

I am going to join SW on Wednesday at my local meeting. My friend does SW and has lost over 2st in the last 8 months-she suggested that I give it a go. This website is fab- and with help from my friend I am becoming familiar with how SW works.
I started this on Thursday 6th January 2011 and have been keeping a diary of what I've eaten. Here it is:

Thursday 6th january:
Banana x 2
Apple
1 x slice wholemeal bread (800g loaf)
1 x dairylea light triangle
1 x chicken and mushroom mug shot
Jacket potato
Heinz beans (half a tin)
Cheese x 28g
Mice pie!!! V naughty
2 cups of tea with semi skimmed milk

Friday 7th January:

Banana x 2
Clementines x 2
Apple
Toast and dairylea as above
Mugshot
Jacket potato, cheese and beans as above
3 clementines
2 teas with semi skimmed milk

Saturday 8th January:

Banana x 2
Satsuma x 3
Apple
Clementines x 2
Salad
Chicken breast (skinless, but from morrisons deli counter!!)
15ml morrisons eat smart French dressing
Mullerlight
Apple

Sunday 9th January:

Satsuma x 2
Banana
Apple
Mullerlight
Cottage pie (extra lean beef mince, colman sachet mix, onion, mushroom, carrots, peas, sweetcorn, greenbeans, broad beans, 15ml Hendersons relish, swede mash

It feels better to write it all down, gives me motivation to keep going. Any advice re: syns in the cottage pie would be fab and greatly received!!

Thanks all!!

Hi Natalie, you are certainly in good company here! I have been following SW since summer 2010, just a shame i didn't discover it sooner.

Are you following EE?, its easier if you state what you had when i.e.
B - weetabix, banana, milk (HEA)
L - jacket pot, beans
D - pasta, bolognese
HEA - milk
HEB - kelloggs fibre plus
Syns -

does that make sense>? that way we can see exactly what you were eating, you'll get loads of positive feedback from others and have a good look at all the amazing diaries on here - esp when you are craving something very un-SW!

Wish you all the luck, will pop back soon to see how your first week is going, donna x

Thanks Donna, I'll be sure to do that. I am joining on weds and will get info re EE then. My friend follows the original plan - green and red days, so for the moment I am doing that. It's great to share with others. Are you following EE? Do you know if the veg I have put in the cottage pie are free? I've read that peas, sweetcorn, green and broad beans are not free on a red day. I'm really motivated to do this and can't wait until my 1st
Class! I've absolutely no idea what I weigh, but I'm sure that it'll be a shock!

Hi Natalie, welcome! The Colmans Cottage Pie mix sachet is 6.5 syns for the lot so depends how many portions you got out of your pie for how many syns per portion. Sweetcorn is 1.5 syns for 28g on a red day too much you have had very few syns so won't make a difference!

Thanks for the help!!

I started last Thursday and am officially joining on Wednesday.

I got 4 portions out of the pie-had one yesterday (as did my partner), had it again today and will have it again tomorrow (I'll be truly sick of it by then!!!)

In terms of syns, my friend was saying that you MUST have minimum of 5 or the plan won't work - is that true?

Thanks in advance!

No you can have between 5 and 15 a day. In theory you don't need to have any but it would make the diet very tough and most people would more likely fall off the wagon. When strictly on plan I try sticking to 10 so I don't feel deprived

Day 6 food diary

15st 8 - weighed myself (couldn't resist). Didn't weigh myself at start so no idea whether I've put on or lost. I must say that I am truly mortified at my weight. 2 years
ago I was 13.5st. I am absolutely resolved to get this weight off.

Here's today's food diary:

Breakfast:

Banana
Clementines x 2

Lunch:

2 x slices of wholemeal bread from 400g loaf (HeB)
1 x slice low low cheese (HeA)
1 x slice morrisons eat smart ham
Mullerlight mandarin
Apple

Snacks:

2 x clementines

Dinner

Cottage pie

Feel sick - cant believe I weigh so much.

Healthy extras

250ml of semi skimmed milk (HeA)

syns today: 5

hi nat am like you a newbie am following the original plan i have been writing all my meals down in a little note pad i bought some books off ebay cause dont have time to go to classes but thinking off joining online when get paid end of month good luck hun sounds like your doin good up to now to me :)

Thanks Kate,

I am writing everything down so I am absolutely honest with myself. I just can't believe I have let myself get to this stage. I feel sick thinking about it.

I'm joining SW tomorrow at my local group. I wish I had weighed myself when i started this last week on my own. Don't if I've lost any weight since starting.

I'm going to keep this up - logging my food diary everyday. I have a notebook I write in throughout the day and then, after dinner, I log it on here!

Good luck with your weight loss

thanks well am goin to do my first weigh in friday but in boots lol wish me luck :)

Hi, I'm thinking of starting with SW and I live in Sheffield too. I was just wondering which meeting you're going to? Let me know how you get on when you go! x

I live on Manor Park so it would probably be Richmond that I'd join too!
It hasn't really started at the moment, I need to though, I've got a lot to lose!

Hope you enjoy the meeting. :)

How funny! How much do you aim to lose? I reckon I've got 6st to lose-a fair amount really.

I've found the plan relatively easy so far but I'm sure it will get difficult. Are you going to join tomorrow or are you following it from home? I'll be sure to let you know what it's like. x

I'm not too sure if I'm going to join a meeting yet, still trying to decide. Partly due to finances and partly due to the fact that I'm nervous and shy and don't want to admit how much weight I've gained! :( x

I bottled going last week-ate crap all day and then said to myself that I'd join next week. I bought some scales yesterday as I wanted to know the damage before I went this evening as I didn't know how I'd react. It made me feel sick the amount of weight I've gained over the last 3 years.

Well I am joining this evening-I'll let you know how I get on!!

To all of you, don't let this stop you joining or following the plan from home, every member at a slimming world club has been in your position likewise these boards, the important part is you have recognised you have a problem and are take control and action, good luck, join next week, in the meantime, gather up loads of tips and recipes in preparation, when i joined sw last year i expected the worst and was less than i thought, pop into Boots before so there are no shocks! Good luck, donna , go on you can do it!!!

Well I joined and everyone there was fab! It was a good laugh actually - everyone is there for the same reason so you are in wonderful company!!

I've taken the plunge and now there's no stopping me - I've just made a bolognese (extra easy) and it's in the slow cooker ready for when I get home from work tomorrow!

Simples!
