Anyone Bfing and doing SW?

My little one is 3 months so I think I need to have 6 extra health extra's, just wondering if there is anyone else out there? x

have a look in the "pregnant and SW" sticy thing above.. there'll be some info in there.. or failing that give your consultant a buzz..

Hi there I still breastfeed at 13 months and u get 4 extra hexs at 3 months. You have to make sure 2 of them are calcium! Good luck and well done. X

This should help:

up to 2 months = 3 extra
2-3 months = 4 extra
4-6 months = 3 extra (if weaning)
4-6 months = 4 extra (if baby is not weaning)
Over 6 months = 1 extra (when weaning)

and what if you never wean???
there was a program on a while ago about women still breastfeeding their 8, 9, 10 year old kids...!!!!

yes those older kids still wanted bf'ing - but why the mothers never stopped is beyond me - really it is.

I was dissappointed not being able to bf either of my two

There's nothing wrong in Breastfeeding! People need to be educated on the benefits and stop turning their noses up when they don't know the full facts!

nobody said there's anything wrong with it..
I just don't think it's entirely normal for a child to continue to breast feed for years after they've started on solid food ( actual food, not mashed up paste stuff.. )

Couldn't agree more! I am currently BF my 2 year old and my 9 month old. People are shocked and horrified when I tell them?! I love it and my boys certainly do :-D.
Ignorant folk who frown upon it! Well done you! It's the best!!

Being as the OP has the advice she needs I will chip in here. This is a cultural thing, and a confusion between the breast as nutrition and the breast as a secondary sexual organ. In developing countries, it is "normal" (not my personal choice of words) for a child to be extensively breast fed simply because it keeps them alive.

In more developed countries it seems to be frowned upon more because we have ample food and it is viewed as an indulgence rather than a necessity to continue the breast feeding relationship for longer than is strictly necessary ie - past the point where solids are established. This chooses to ignore a number of factors, like what the child would benefit most from, or how having this relationship withdrawn prematurely affects the child and indeed the mother.

In my own experience I was unable to BF my son because he wouldn't latch. With my first daughter I did establish a great BF relationship that carried on until she was 2 1/2 and only ended then because my supply dried up while I was pregnant with my youngest daughter. I had problems again with my youngest daughter, and she only managed a few weeks of attempted establishment but supply could not meet demand, so we switched her over. I am profoundly grateful that I had this opportunity at all - and also profoundly guilty that it wasn't more successful.

No one person has the right to say what is right or normal for another. It is very much an individual decision that should solely be based on what is right for the child.

why not?

do you drink milk?

Why is it acceptable to drink milk from a cow or other animal but not acceptable for a child to drink milk that is designed for them?

Human milk has far more health benefits for that child than cow's milk(which lets face it is produced by a cow for calves) regardless of whether they are on solids or not. Yet no one would turn a blind eye at a "older" child drinking cow's milk from a glass etc. I think it is more to do with that fact it is coming from a human breast, that is the problem here, which is stupid.

If a child wants to continue to breastfeed and a mother is happy to continue then it is completely normal. All children eventually lose their sucking reflex anyway at about the age of 8 in which case breastfeeding would naturally stop if they were to carry on breastfeeding that far.

Glad I have been backed up here. It's something I am extremely passionate about!
My husband said to me when I first started out that I wasnt to feed longer than 6 months. I had alot of heartache and trouble with feeding what with my son having Tongue tie, and then developing thrush and I eventually took it upon myself to train as a Breastfeeding peer supporter with the Breastfeeding network. I then found out all the benefits of it and my husband now doesn't want me to give up.

This is what bugs me so many people are hugely miseducated and see the breasts as a sexual object! They are there to feed a child not for a mans or womans entertainment! Many bf sites have been taken off face book yet women with their breasts out haven't...... Go figure.

If people knew they were researching into using breastmilk as a form of cancer cure then would u still say it's wrong to give this amazing superjuice to a child? I think not.
