can anyone give me a recipe that doesnt contain tinned tomatoes? as i really dont fancy them in a cottage pie xx

Have you tried it with tinned toms in? Most recipes Ive seen uses them although the one I do has 6-8 fresh toms chopped into 1/4's for around 4 people, with beef stock as the "sauce". Otherwise just use beef stock but it wont be very thick, so could try cornflour or even mr mash. hth x

Yeah, its thickens it up and adds nice flavour. I like toms though but I would definately say try it then see what ya think. OH hates mash so very rarely make it anymore but used to be a fav of mine xx

Thats great will give it a go.. i do like tomatoes just wasn’t sure what it would be like in cottage pie lol xxx

Hey ! I tend ot make my cottage pie mince in the slow cooker with bovril and find it goes thick. I usually grate some carrot into the liquid and it thickens it up during cooking. I then put this in a dish with potatoe and oven for 15/20 mins.

Means I can bulk cook mince and pop some in the freezer
