Hi all,

I really need some help- I've just finished my 2nd day of SS and i feel so awful i just want to cry! I am hungry, my head hurts, i feel sick and i couldnt concentrate at work at all today! I have drunk 6 pints (Cambridge say you need 4) in addition to several cups of tea, and I dont know whats going on. My mum says she can always tell when im SSing as i lose my charisma and i seem to be 'slower mentally' in her words.

Im not sure whether I should switch to 790 as I dont know if this would give me the same loss. Im not worried about the whole need to stay away from food completely now as I am in a routine of going to work and stuff (my office is also in the middle of nowhere so there isnt any place to buy naughty snacks so im not tempted) so I would just like to know if I will see the same losses on 790 or if they will be less, and also just a confirmation of what I can/have to eat and drink on 790 as lost my book and the sticky is a bit confusing for me!

I would really appreciate it if someone could get back to me ASAP so i can go to the shops and get some food if i decide to go ahead.

Thanks xxx

The loss will slow down on 790 but they would still be good losses. i think my ex-CDC said the average was 10-12lb a month. not sure what u can drink. i'd ask ur CDC for a new booklet?

tbh - i always advise people not to make any decisions about it until at least a week in (by hook or by crook) - it IS sh**ty in the first few days but by day 7 you will feel much better and the scales will make it worth it! Do whatever you can to get through the first week and then decide!

Having said that SS isn't for everyone and you still see really good losses on the 790 :)

I'd stick with it if you can, You are enduring the worst of it at present and the headaches should subside within the next couple of days. After that things will get better. Drink more water. This not only reduces hunger pangs but also helps with the headaches. Headaches are a side effect of carbohydrate withdrawal and once the body moves into Ketosis, these will go. Apparently you should be in ketosis around days 3 and 4 on SSing although this may vary.

Good luck and I hope you can last it'll be worth it!!

Hi Hun

I understand completely how you are feeling as I am also toying with changing over to 790. Im on day 8 and have found the last few days difficult. My plan is to continue for until the end of this week and by then if I really cant do it then I think I'll do 790 instead of completely giving up.

Here is some info directly from the CD website {looked at this yesterday} about the 790 plan. You have to decide what is best for YOU and it may be worth while having a chat with ur CDC and see what she / he suggests. From what I ve read the average monthly loss for 790 is 12lbs and for SS 14lbs co not a great deal in it really.

Well good luck with what ever you decide x

790 plan
  • 3 Cambridge meals
  • 6oz (150g) portion of poultry meat (without skin or fat)
  • 8oz (250g) portion of white fish
  • 8oz (250g) quorn or tofu
  • 8oz (250g) skimmed milk cottage cheese
  • 3tbsp 'white or green' vegetables (cooked or raw) - such as spring greens, cauliflower, lettuce, mushrooms, cabbage, marrow, broccoli, celery, cress, courgettes or cucumber
  • 0.5 pint (235ml) skimmed milk
Continue to drink at least 4pt (2.25ltr) of water per day, and as much unsweetened black tea or black coffee as you want.

hey all, thanks for your replies, unfortunately i had to make a decision before the shops shut and there werent any replies to this thread so i went and got some chicken- just had a small chicken breast and feel loads better. Decided not gonna to 790 but if i feel ill i will have a little bit of chicken and some veg (less than on AAM) altho dont wanna do that every day- that way I will stay in ketosis, and hopefully be able to stick to SS as much as I can. Thanks for your replies anyway tho x

I think you are better doing either one or the other not switching between the two.

If you stick to Step 2 rigidly you will stay in ketosis, drink plenty of water and you won't feel hungry.

Even though you have had your chicken you must still have your third pack.

The 790 plan has changed now and you can also have tinned tuna in spring water as a protein option.

Your CDC should be able to give you the updated plan.

Thanks Linda, will have last pack now- soup, yummy! Do you think it will be ok to have chicken every now and again if needs be? Obv I will only do it if I feel that my brain is in need of power but it wont cause any problems will it?

x

The reason you wanted food is that your glycogen stores were almost depleted and your brain was tricking you into thinking you were hungry, you weren't really as everything you need is in the packs.

If you choose to have chicken or one of the other protein options you must do this every day in order that you do not confuse your body and your metabolism.

You could do AAM or 790 have a chat to your CDC who will advise you.

As htpink has said its best to try and ride it out for a week as by that time you are well into ketosis and you will not think you feel hungry or indeed be hungry.

Linda:)

Ah ok thanks Linda that makes sense. In that case I think I will just do a permanent AAM week just to keep my brain ticking over. I was feeling really weak altho not majorly hungry, just felt my brain needed a boost!

I have done SS before and got into ketosis fine and went through the whole process of hunger etc. but at the time I didnt have any pressure on me- in the end the reason I actually ended up giving up was cos I just couldnt concentrate on all my final yr uni work- my brain just didnt seem to work properly- cant explain it, im sure a lot of ppl are fine but it seriously affects my thinkingpower!!

So rather than give up I shall eat a little every day to keep me going, as I just started a new job and am finding it exhausting..

Thanks for your help everyone and for letting me know bout 790 foods!

xx

I swapped to 790 (well, more like AAM week all the time, as I don't have the milk allowed in 790). After 8 days I still felt terrible on SS despite everyone saying you should feel great by day 4 or 5. That extra little bit of food seems to make all the difference and I feel fine now.

I've also decided to cheat once a week and eat and drink what I want for one meal (but that's probably not advisable unless you're pretty strong willed).

@Thin Lizzie - be prepared to be knocked out of ketosis ! I cannot see the point of deciding to eat what you like once a week, you will only prolong the time you need to spend on this diet and lose all the benefits of being in ketosis.

Just my opinion, but I am sure other people will back me up.

Im on 790 at the mo, with the aim to eventually move over to ss ... but if I dont feel I can move over to ss then I am happy to stick with 790.
