CALLING ALL ASDA SHOPPERS

Slimming World
Hello everyone! As it is one of my New Year's Resolutions to be more careful with my pennies, I was wondering if any Asda shoppers out there have any tips on how to save cash?

I do green days so at the moment am buying (apart from the usual veg, quorn, beans, pasta, fruit etc) the Low Fat Supernoodles, 5 for £2, Mullerlights which are usually on offer, frozen fruit £2 a bag and Low Low cheese which is often 2 blocks for £5.

Does anyone know of any good deals? What do you guys buy at Asda? Are there any Asda own brand bargains I should know about - particularly yoghurts or stir in sauces... or anything really (including Syns - I'm open to suggestions)!!

I've never had mugshots / pasta n sauce / savoury rice type things as have never looked up the syn values. Is there any cheap stuff like that that's good for Green Days I should know about?

Hi im sure that most of the mug shots some of the pasta n sauce and the savoury rice are free on a green day. I did slimming world a while ago and it was then. i bought a load as it was all on offer.

karen :)

check mysupermarket.co.uk
they have 4 of the main supermarkets on there and if you click on the offers section and then switch between asda, tesco and sainsburys then you can see what each has on "special" this week..
if you do a "fake shop" on there for one store, you can see if any of the stuff is cheaper at any of the other main ones..

a lot of stuff is cheaper in places like Aldi and Lidl though most of their stuff isn't regular name brand stuff..

Try the own brand challenge.

You dont need to go from say Heinz to Smart Price, but from brand name to shops own e.g Heinz to Asda own beans is worth a try.

Their Sunnybisks (weetabix) are so cheap compared to the brand name and taste great.

Hi, Jules
I've discovered the SW Food Directory 2011 in class about 2 weeks ago. It sells for £7-50.
The directory introduction states it has 21 500 products from local shops, supermarkets and eating out places.
1500 non branded and branded Free and Super free foods
5800 Smart syns - this includes all the Major Supermarkets and smaller ones like Aldi and Lidl
12400 Syns Basket section - from Iceland even down to Strepsils
1600 syn values for Eating Out places eg: Macdonald, Pizza Hut. Starbucks etc

I love this book. It has everything at your finger tips and will answer all your questions eg: the syn value of Asda's own brand Joghurt. And its quicker than using the Online Syn checker or picking up the phone.

Hi a really nice thing from ASDA is their own chickpea dahl. It comes in a tin and is very, very tasty and free on a green day. Its not that expensive and I always have a tin in my cupboard. Great filling for a jacket potato - yum, yum :D

Ditch the supernoodles, they aren't good for you anyway.
Swap Mullerlights with either ASDA own brand Mullerlights or another fat free yoghurt (activia pots are often on offer.)
Swap Quorn mince for ASDA Meat Free mince - it is cheaper and free.

i find if going to asda its always best to write a list and stick to it as im a kind of shopoholic and get drawn into the clothes section :D

i like asda but find their meat isn't as nice as tesco's and as they have soooo many offers on i end up with stuff i didn't need and bad ! lol i now write down what we are having for tea every day of the week then do my food list from that and only get those items, i even go online and write the price next to it so i know exaclty how much i am about to spend and if there is any room for extra's we are a family of 3 (2year old) and i have managed to get our weekly shop down to £30 ish pound with a large shop every month which includes dog food and cleaning products it can be done just needs you to be organised.. xx

Yep it has changed, according to the new 2011 food directory its listed in the free on green/extra easy as green :talk017:

Which is fab cos I prefer it too

Asda have got the Quorn mince, sausages, and chicken bits for 1 pound a bag, 2x 500g of mixed berries and melon and grapes is 3pounds, and Activia fat free yoghurts are 3 for 1 pound.

hi, have you tried doing an online shop? I find it works out a lot better for me, do go to asda once a fornight with mum, but, if i do online don't do so much impluse buying;)

I work right next to Asda and find if I go in after 3pm all the bread and meat stuff is reduced.
I get loafs of the Weight watchers wholemeal bread and the danish for only 25p-30p.
Also meat is a right bargain so I stock up on it and freeze it all.

I stick with asdas own baked beans, tomatoes and passata too. Tastes as good as the leading brands.
I also like the Asda good for you pasta arrabiata, like the pasta and sauces but cheaper and also syn free on green and ee. xxx

THANKYOU EVERYONE for your help! Very much appreciated!

Their Sunnybisks (weetabix) are so cheap compared to the brand name and taste great.

I LOVE Sunnybisks, actually prefer them to Weetabix, lovely with a chopped up nana!

Hi a really nice thing from is their own chickpea dahl. It comes in a tin and is very, very tasty and free on a green day. Its not that expensive and I always have a tin in my cupboard. Great filling for a jacket potato - yum, yum :D

This sounds amazing, however I couldn't find this in my Asda :( I found the Ainsley Harriot dahl though, is it usually in the same place as the Ainsley stuff in your Asda or somewhere else? Is that Ainsley stuff free?

Swap Mullerlights with either own brand Mullerlights or another fat free yoghurt (activia pots are often on offer.)
Swap Quorn mince for ASDA Meat Free mince - it is cheaper and free.
I was wondering what the Asda Mullerlights are? Does anyone know what Asda yogs are free? I usually buy the Asda Fat Free Natural yog but have always bought Mullerlights, Shape or Activia.

Asda have got the Quorn mince, sausages, and chicken bits for 1 pound a bag

I bought the Asda mince the other day, going to make a lovely veggie lasagna tomorrow, can't wait, thanks for the tip!!!

I bought the Asda sausages (they didn't have any Quorn ones in anyway!!) and they were 2 for £3 but am I right in thinking they are 1 and a half syns each? It's the Lincolnshire ones.

I stick with asdas own baked beans, tomatoes and passata too. Tastes as good as the leading brands.
I also like the Asda good for you pasta arrabiata, like the pasta and sauces but cheaper and also syn free on green and ee. xxx

My boyfriend refuses to eat any own brand beans unfortunately but we sometimes get good offers on Branston's.

I am defo going to try the Pasta Arrabiata though!! thanks loads!

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!!!

ps are there any asda cereal bars that count as HEX B?
