What do you think?

Crawling to the finish!
Is it better to eat junk food the whole time your pregnant and gain 2 1/2 stone or eat healthy 1200 cals a day and lose 2 1/2 stone trough pregnancy. I ask because, with my first I don't think I saw fruit or veg for nine months and had a very healthy 8lbs 1 baby girl 2 years on not a health complaint. But I was very unhappy! So with my next I'd like to eat very healthy 1200 a day ( I'm overweight this time!) what's your opinions? Xx

Hi i ate ok during my last pregnancy eating lots of fruit and veg etc and put on around 1st and 9 lbs and lost that pretty much straight away, im now 7 weeks pregnant again and joined slimming world yesterday as i want to keep an eye on my weight, i think 1200 calories is a little low if your pregnant but someone else may say differently, they say you only need an extra 200 cals during the last couple of weeks of pregnancy, maybe speak to your midwife and see what she recommends.

Sorry I'm not pregnant yet hehe. We are not preventing not trying to letting nature take course. But I only just considered I'm on a heavy diet tomorrow hehe I'd like to be a slim mummy with a tummy :0) x

I would look to eat healthily but 1200 calories is not a healthy intake if you could be pregnant. If you're potentially pregnant after you've ovulated but you want to diet then I would suggest to do your 1200 cals diet from your period to ovulation and then increase it to a minimum of 1600-2000 calories for the post ovulation phase as you need to assume you may be pregnant (also avoid the foods you should avoid during pregnant as well as alcohol).

Slimming World is a diet that can be followed when pregnant so perhaps look at that and maybe chat to who ever runs it in your area, explain what you're planning and see what they would recommend.

However, healthy eating doesn't mean drastically reducing your calorie in take, just reduce the fat and sugars and increase with plenty of fruit, veg and complex carbs etc. You need to eat well now as you could suffer badly with morning sickness and rely on your body's reserves for the first 3 months.
