Hi Guys

Am joining a group tonight for the first time, looking through this forum seems really useful and definately know where to come for support and advice. All seems a bit confusing at the moment but hopefully by the time i come home tonight it will all make sense (hopefully). My 14 year old son is joining with me - does anyone know if they follow the same plan or is it slightly different

Thanks in advance:wave_cry:

Hi and welcome:)

I got this from the SW site, with regards to the childrens food.

Q: Can my child join a Slimming World group?

A: Children aged 11-15 can a join a Slimming World group for free if they are accompanied by a parent/guardian. As well as our member books, our young members receive specially written books to help them make positive lifestyle changes, with the support of their family and with GP recommendations as guidelines for their progress. Young people joining a Slimming World group can enjoy a specially devised healthy eating plan called Free2Go.

It includes a huge list of unlimited Free Foods and fibre and calcium-rich Healthy Extras for optimum health and satisfaction. Free2Go – with the help of fully trained Consultants – helps young members reduce the less healthy options by discovering cool swaps and healthy recipes. If the adult is already a member of Slimming World, there is no extra charge. If the accompanying adult is not a member, a reduced weekly fee of £3.75 (plus the current joining fee) is charged to the parent/guardian for our help and advice.

Hi, I joined for the first time last night so good luck. Everyone here has been so useful so far, I'm going to sit down tonight with all of the books and read right through them as it's all a bit daunting at the moment - there's so much to learn! Good luck :D X

Good luck to u .... its really easy when u get your head around it ... read your book and keep looking back at it ... plan plan and plan some more ... decide what to eat, write a shopping list and stick to it!! You will do really well xxx

Well we both joined and have menu planned for the week and shopping done, I'm quite happy with it but 14 yr old son not impressed at the snacking situation, does anybody have any ideas on very low syn snacks apart from fruit/veg/yogs. He's used to snacking so want to try and break him in gently by letting him have lots of little snacks.

Any ideas i'll be grateful

Thanks:rolleyes:

Is he doing Free2Go? He can have (some) cereal and brown bread and milk unlimited then?

Ummm..... free2go??? we are doing the orange days.

The leader had no young persons books left and is going to drop one in to me but she said the food would be no different to what I am having

The bread is actually quite a big thing for him, I've managed to convince him to change to nimble small bread so he can have that on HEXB but he wasn't convinced when i did him egg on toast this morning, he said it was like cardboard - can't win can you!!

Alpen Light bars are not too high in syns.
Morrison's do a box of 'Eat Smart' snack crackers (less than 1% fat) 3 crackers =1/2 syn Could he have these with laughing cow extra light triangles (a choice)
Make him some scotch eggs, boiled eggs free, Morrisons eat smart sausages (I think these are 1/2 syn each but better check syn value) I make 6 of these at a time hubby takes them to work as a snack.

Hope this helps a little

Good luck to you both

How about Alpen bars (2 as hexb) or the Weetabix oat bars (1 as hexb), you can get white choc ones. He can have them as a hexb or I think they are only 6 syns per hexb.

Or if he's at home & wanting something sweet to eat how about making up some pudding rice with water then adding his favourite fruit (I buy frozen fruit) and mix in some 0% greek yoghurt or natural/flavoured yoghurt & if its not sweet enough add some sweetner (free).

I'm not sure how the free to go plan works so check these are ok before he has them but things like some mug shots are very low syns and filling, could you make some slimming world wedges or chips or potato slices for him to snack on? Some slimming world dips etc savoury rice babybel lights are included in healthy extras on the s.world plan I follow

There are probably lots more ideas on this site as well :)
