Hungry before bed?

I find myself feeling hungry before bed now.. ( it's a winter thing I'm sure.. )

Before SW I would have had a couple of slices of cheese on toast or a big bowl of cerial.. but I don't keep these in anymore because I've given up cheese and bread and cerial since I can't have as much as I want, so I don't want any.. ( petty I know, but if it's in I'd eat it all in one go.. )

I used to eat toast and cereal before bed too. I've tried to stop eating after 9.00pm since starting slimming world and I'm finding that I'm sleeping better. My friend says it's because it's easier for your body to switch off when it doesn't have a meal to digest. I wonder if there's any truth in that?

Usually when I start wanting food at night (and my tummy does feel hungry but I wonder if it's kinda psychological) I think it's time to try sleep. Of course I'm a total hypocrite sat writing this at 3am!

I wonder if there is something very light you could work into your syns, or something free to eat.

I try distraction because I find, as well, that if I start eating anything at that time it is hard to stop. For some reason!

Hope you find a solution, something that works for you. :)

Here i sit at 3.23 am tucking into a huge bowl of rice, veggies and prawns, when i'm hungry I eat. It's syn free so, it's fair game!

I can't sleep if I'm hungry going to bed. I usually have a cereal bar, a banana and/or a yogurt. I read that bananas and dairy products such as yogurt or hot milk help you sleep better.
Sometimes I just have a chicken drumstick or ham in the evening, or a pkt Ryvita mimis and cheese spread.
I definitely eat if I'm hungry.

I usually have a banana and then either a glass of milk or cup of tea - then I go and brush my teeth. Then mentally because my teeth are minty fresh, i don't want food. It's a little trick I picked up from a tv programme or magazine years ago and actually really works!

I think if i'm honest, when i'm feeling hungry before bed (or at other times of the day) if i'm honest with myself, it's mostly either because i'm bored or being greedy! But that's just me!

If I've wanted something to fill me I'll go for free food like couscous made with water and a mullerlite stirred through it - comforting and warming and sweet. If it's a hankering for savoury I'll have a small portion of HM soup :D

I exercise in the evening which tends to supress the appetite for the rest of the night. If i haven't done any and i do get hungry i will have a banana, or a mugshot or something.

I ended up having some scrambled eggs...

I don't usually crave sweet things, it's more salty stuff for me so some scrambled eggs with a bit of coarse black pepper and salt in hit the spot..

Good idea, they are really filling too.

Good idea with scrambled eggs... rainbow (old member) use to have scrambled eggs with a bit of soy sauce on and she had brilliant losses

Good to know its ok to do this and still lose loads, thanks for that!

I also keep over a little bit of that nights dinner, or some soup. Or save my HE's and have laughing cow light on ryvita with toms and cooked ham.

If you eventually feel reday to go back on bread, a tip is to keep it in the freezer and just lift out what you need and defrost it. With cereal, measure out a few portions into sandwich bags and just leave one portion out, keep the rest out of the way somewhere.

I am a big believer in everything in moderation, because I think its really important to learn to control your eating, makes maintenence easier.

Mind you I am one to talk, since I am no longer maintaining and am back to losing lol.

I have been waking up on a couple of occasions in the night really hungry. (One of the things pregnancy does to you) and so make sure I have my fruit bowl stocked up with bananas as I find they fill you up quickly, which is just what I need to help me get back to sleep or sometimes even a handful of grapes helps.

Perhaps try something similar. Hot chocolate is probably a good suggestion too, but of course would need to be synned.

Like others have mentioned though, you also need to be careful that it is that you are actually hungry and not because it is a habit iykwim.
