Sausage rolls and pastry issues

Hello,

I'm trying to get organised for Christmas and am debating making some low syn sausage rolls. I've just had my first order through from Joes Sausages, with syn free sausagemeat.

I'm wondering about either making something with filo pastry, which seems to be lower in syns than shortcrust, or whether I can use the pastry recipe from the mince tarts in the Extra Easy Christmas book. The mince tarts are 3.5 syns each, but I'm unsure how many syns there would be in just the pastry? (assuming I use the same amount and make approx 32 sausage rolls, rather than mince tarts).

Has anyone tried this pastry and does it come out okay?

I also want to try making syn-free scotch eggs with the sausagemeat.

My order arrived much earlier than expected, so I've had four chipolatas for breakfast and am very impressed! They are much chunkier than expected and no fat at all came out whilst cooking. They also tasted lovely! :)

Thanks muchly for all ideas!

I was thinking this too but with veggie sausages! I have some filo in the fridge which i made mince pies today...mmm nom nom :)
I might try some tomorow if i have time, so i'll get back to you if they work. I am also going to try to make spring rolls on xmas eve as we always have take away...i'm going to make spring rolls, egg fried rice & order some stir fried veggies...looking forward to it already!

Spring rolls sound like a great idea, I might have to try them too!

Hopefully, and time-permitting, I'm going to have a go at making the SW pastry tomorrow and see how the sausage rolls turn out.

I made some sausage rolls using quorn sausages and weightwatchers wholemeal toastie loaf (flattened with a rolling pin) and spread the bread with laughing cow extra light before rolling the sausage up. I took them to a Christmas taster session at class last week and they went down a storm!!
